Sun and fun is mostly light stuff, including amphibious aircraft which use the nearby lake, and business but not jet related. Check out the flying programme before you decide. Not far away is Fantasy of flight. Lots of military stuff in the museum there, and usually Kermit Weeks flies something like a P51 in the afternoons. Again, check out the website. Ron

I like being retired.
It was something I did not look forward to. I loved my job and might have gone a lot longer. However, two things intervened. First, my beloved was pestering the life out of me to give up work, because she thought it was for my own good: damn it;she was proved right, and secondly, our company was taken over, so like everybody else I was thrown out of work. By selling our house in the UK and moving to a lower cost base, we were able to fund 6 years of early retirement before my pensions kicked in, and, here is he nice bit, I was able to hang on to my second love, my old '172, which otherwise might now have just been a memory by now.
I love my wife's who has been my best friend, lover and inspiration for more than 44 years. You could not imagine a couple more suited to each other. Even in the days when I had no money, she always made sure I did the minimum hours and she encouraged me to buy a share in a '172 which I eventually camr to own in full
I like anything connected with aviation, especially things like this forum, and unexpected bonuses from long held friends which allowed me to travel on the flight deck on my recent trip to Orlando.
I like my garden and my good health which enables me to enjoy it.
I like good food and good wine, but no longer take it to excess.
I dislike injustice I loathe people who maltreat and abuse children I dislike cold miserable weather.
On the whole, I am a very lucky and happy person.

Nice to get back on an even keel and no silly windups--I find that retirement has led me to discover all the things I could never do when working--I have always adored gardening and here it is so much easier than my north facing clay wet garden in the pennine foothills above Burnley.things I could only grow in my greenhouse with difficulty now grow like weeds--this year I had aubergines as big as rugby balls---however I have always fancied myself as a DIYer--after all its mostly logic and from personal contacts even morons seemed able to do it. My job left me with little time but with retirement I have come to realise that I have vastly underestimated the semi literates who perform these tasks.
That last was VERY tongue in cheek in case anyone suspects a windup.
It took a year to build the deck--and the sunroof above it and the bridge over the entrance to the caves. However having had it inspected by the "village committee of d i y français" I am faily pleased with the work despite some errors. They just could not understand why I took so long and why I had to pull it all out start again with some jobs. Sadly when I start these things its always the first time for me.LOL My psychology degrees do not provide readily transferable skills--no one in France is going to ask me to restore to society an abused or damaged child so I have to start all over again--my multi skilled mates here are both amused and amazed by my lack of skill.
And do I have a new respect for those who have skills in their hands.
Today it was too cold for gardening so an upgrade of the lighting in the caves was started---my God do I have respect for electricians.--especially as my torch faded as I was fitting a vital part.-----all this because my partner wants to grow mushrooms!!!!!
Still 3 more points for the reds and January on the way---not bad so far. Hope I still have room for my wine etc when its all finished---at the moment its learn a new skill a day--and all I wanted to do was retire, fish, do a bit of boating and live off the garden as much as possible.
retirement--what's to dislike--provided you have a plan and don't end up just looking at the wall--Bob's idea of a job keep the grey cells going is a good one as is Ron's to fly until he drops LOL. As for me every day is filled with new challenges and frequent moments of panic when I realise that I truly DON'T know how to get out of the mess I am in without losing SOOOO much face. ps I am not trusted to help with the wallpapering for some reason--eyesight-- incompetence--cackhandedness.LOL
