Hi all, I'm currently conducting a final year dissertation for my Geography degree at the University of Chester investigating the perceptions and effects of aircraft noise from JLA has on the residents of Hale village. Just wondering if anyone had any contacts or access to get data such as Aircraft movements from JLA (much like the data used in the excellent monthly reports produced on this site by Dave), access to aircraft noise data from JLA and if anyone has any views or opinions on the matter i would appreciate the help. I am looking to conduct some interviews with staff at JLA, Air traffic controllers, management etc so if you know of anyone who would like to do that i would appreciate it! Best thing about this dissertation is combining my degree with my love of aviation and at my local airport! Thanks again everyone! Sorry to bother everyone again.
I'm looking for some data regarding times of day for aircraft movements at JLA, possibly an average number usually per hour? Part of my study i have asked what time of day the residents feel aircraft noise is of greatest concern to them. According to my data collected they believe between the hours of 6 and 11 am to be the busiest time for aircraft movements, however those times are times when people are outside, going to work or taking the kids to school, so they may perceive aircraft to be more frequent and louder at these times because they are outdoors.
I would be so thankful if anyone could give me data to prove/disprove their perception of aircraft noise, with regards to the timing of flights. It would really help my dissertation a lot!
Thanks once again everyone, i appreciate any help you can offer me!

The pattern of noise does differ between Airports. Unusually at LJLA at present much of the airliner traffic involves aircraft that are based at the Airport overnight, with very few flights that originate elsewhere. Therefore in very general terms 0630-0900 vast majority of movements are departures, very little moves then for several hours until around lunch-time a wave of inbounds and an hour later outbounds, then although more spread out another wave of inbounds and departures 1530 to 1800ish, with from 2000 hours the vast majority of movements being landings.
Perceived noise does depend on which runway end is the active. Hale Village normally is the landing end - for the past three days with an easterly wind, they have taken the brunt of departures at take-off power. What I'm getting here is that perceived noise is not only affected by time of day but also by direction of aircraft traffic. Hale normally notices the evening landing noise, this week they have suffered the much louder morning departure noise. Perceived noise can change with the seasons, as late afternoon and early evening traffic is heard through open windows during a hot summer, or at weekends when people are out sun bathing (if only) themselves in the garden. I would certainly agree that early and late noise provides the greatest nuisance to residents.
To number crunch the departure and arrivals times, then consult the Airport's own website and the arrival and departure pages. You would need to print out the page twice daily for 7 days to get all the flights recorded. Mon-Fri, each day has a similar pattern, but the times will vary a little as not all the same destinations are served daily. Sat may have less evening flights, Sun less morning ones - never analysed the times, I'm just aware of the general flow pattern. In general terms the flights remain constant for the period November to March and again April to October, with few changes during those periods at LJLA. Of course flights do run late, you will have to work on scheduled times, as a constant.
This pattern of flights has not always been the case at LJLA though. Between 1979 and 2005ish, with a number of mail and newspaper flights, the busiest and noisiest time of day was between 2300 and 0130 hours. There are good daily timetables available for most years circa 1980 to 2000ish, should you wish to make comparisons with past noise/flow patterns.
Have fun with the number crunching.
