Sir Patrick Moore has passed away at the age of 89. The ex.RAF navigator with no formal training in astronomy possessed a rare ability to explain challenging scientific subjects without dumbing down. His enthusiastic and quirky presentation of the BBC TV programme 'The Sky At Night' helped and inspired many ordinary people to a greater understanding of the universe. R.I.P.Patrick.

He presented "The Sky at Night" for over 50 years. The longest serving presenter of any program in the world. RIP Patrick Moore.

His eccentric yet stoical personality summed up what was so right in Britain in past decades and throws a spotlight on what is so wrong in todays "instant celebrity" society.
RIP Sir Patrick, may your star shine brightly.
