Anyone who has been spotting for many years will know only too well how frustrating it can be. Having access to more real-time information than ever before doesn't always help.
Ryanair kindly sent new B738 EI-EVZ into Speke from Dublin on Thursday evening in exchange for a previously based aircraft. It was cold and dark, and I was not even sure VZ had parked in a visible position,so I decided it could wait until Friday.
Friday morning brought a deluge. Thus the plan was to wait until VZ departed, track it to find out where it went, then see it coming back. Simples...
Not really. It sat doggedly on the ground all morning whilst the rain continued unabated. Then it got up and positioned to Leeds, from where it has operated ever since. Drat!!!
Then on Friday evening Sovereign UR-LDB turned up. It was dark and still raining, but at least I knew where this one had parked. Stand 40. Visible!
Not wishing to be outwitted a second time,I trudged off in the wet to see the 680,and sure enough, there it sat.
And there it STILL sat in the sunshine all day Saturday. So I saw it again without trying. Double drat!!!
Does anybody else have tales of spotting incompetence with which to entertain us?

Yes, like the time John and I trekked to Ringway to see something or other in the middle of the night, only for fog to descend and whatever it was we wanted to see went to Speke.

Yes----and I remember us sleeping on a bench on the freezing spotters area at Ringway to see a CV990--we found the lovely warm under cover spot AFTER the sun came up.DOH

John and I were travelling from München Hauptbahnhof (Munich Main Station) to Munich airport by train when they announced over the intercom "all passengers for the airport need to be in the forward part of the train as it splits in to two halves the front going to the airport and the rear to..... " Not knowing where we where we got off to check and the doors closed and it went off without us. The next one was only about twenty minutes or so, but we laughed about it. While travelling from CDG to Le Bourget by train, again, with John we arrived at Le Bourget and John got off further down the train and my door wouldn't open and the train continued to Gare de Nord we me on board. Massive station Gare de Nord so I ran up the steps and down the other side and jumped on the first train which took me back to Le bourget with John sitting there on the platform wondering what had happened. All good fun ;D Regards Beemer.
