from 1st may 2009 route 700 is being withdrawn by arriva as a commercial service as it currently is and is being replaced by route X2 going to be operated by arrivas coach subsidary tgm with the name flight delay services based at manchester airport. its going to go from piccadily as 700 currently does down the motorway a bit to macnehster airport then normal route to warrington widnes then to jla but from there its going to go to lime street station so in effect mirroring the current 500 operated by arriva. as yet i dont know if the 500 is being withdrawn and replaced with this new route. the number might be familiar to a few members from the north of the city as there currently is an X2 operated by stagecaoch north west going from preston via southport bootle crosby to liverpool queen square. will be confusing soon with this route

Good news to a degree, that at least some people can now travel from airport to airport in both directions, hope the frequency is the same or better.

Yes your right Jordan.
The 700 is to be replaced by Arriva's coaching arm but will provide a better service which will be more accessible for airport users. A bit of a bonus for the airport really, especially if Terravision keep their direct coach link with Manchester.
On a more worrying note there could be reductions in service on the 80A and 86A routes but the 500 is to remain the same at present.

Steve if they reduce the 500 anymore they may aswel get rid altogether as its now one every half an hour. one of the lads i work with his dad drives them normaly but lately hes been doing nightbus work instead.

Am I right in saying that this new service is not free to us older folk with a bus pass as the 700 was. Regards "doddering old " Beemer. Not sure about that Brian. It depends on how it is registered. I think it unlikely as the Governments decision to allow free travel for all Disabled people & OAP's has cost Arriva £m's. Nice of them to pass legislation and expect private company's to pick up the tab. With Arriva passing it to their coach arm I shouldn't think it will be registered as a local service as the 700 was. Incidentally these cuts your seeing now are mainly because of the losses incurred through political interference both local (Merseytravel) and national. The renumeration forwarded by these bodies is decided by them and bares little resemblance to bus operators costs or pricing strategy. Its now crazy that you can buy tickets from Merseytravel for use on any bus within Merseyside cheaper that the bus company's own. This in turn has forced the bus company's to charge sky high prices in order to keep the services going. People are just not putting up with it and are voting with their feet by using their cars or walking. An example of this is two passengers got on my bus in Catharine Street going to the National Express coach station. A distance of about 1 mile. They needed to get two buses to do this at a total cost to them of £6.40. Cheaper to get a taxi or what Sorry to rant on.

Here's a BBC report from today echoing what I have put in post #6 above. I can't see the Government paying anymore though, so free national travel for pensioners may have to be scrapped eventually. Another vote entiser gone belly-up. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7969839.stmCheers Steve

Calflier I have tried the link but it is still not an active site. Also contact Excel to draw it to their attention. However by some digging around on the Excel site I have found more details, including fares and simplified timetables etc Try: www.airportbycoachliverpool.co.uk
