Has there ever been a 'material' winged microlight land at Lpl airport? When I say 'material', you know what I mean? Those with triangular wings with material on them, as opposed to solid fixed wing 'microlights'.
I'm sure there are proper names for the two different types but I don't know them, I'm sure someone will enlighten me...

No idea, but I think the term you're looking for is 'Weight-shift' rather than '3-axis'

Air Britain Merseyside had a few visit quite a while ago when they held a fly in, all aircraft parked on the old 26 runway, but I can't remember the date but it would be in the 1990's?

I will enquire with my neighbour who owned a Flex-wing at one time and now has a 3 axis Ultra-light I am sure he has mentioned visiting LPL at some time in his material covered engine powered kite with a seat.

"G-EMLY paid a few visits a few years ago" Interesting...any idea of the circumstances??? Visiting a friend and performing a local flight with them. It's also night stopped and spent the night in the RVR hangar.

Air Britain Merseyside Branch 10th Anniversary fly in was Sat 5th August 1995 and of the 20 visitors we had 6 of them were microlights ...my log probably in order of arrival shows... G-MVZZ Chevron....G-MWSH Pegasus Quasar with G-MWXW Cyclone Chaser....G-MYKI Mainair Mercury with G-MWVZ Gemini Flash and G-MTRA Gemini Flash IIA. I seem to remember one of the pilots saying a couple of others were due in but as one of the pair had a poor radio signal strength they turned back to Ince Blundell.Others had flown to a barbecue fly in elsewhere or we would have had more with the rare opportunity to visit LPJL.
regards Dave

That was a brilliant day. I remember it well. AN-2 giving a few pleasure flights. A few years ago (about 5 years I think) at one of the aviation fairs at the back of the Marriot hotel, 'Ince Flyers' had a Flex-wing on display after roading it in. Near the end of the day they used part of the old apron to take off back home.
