Was this is a port of call, or the beginning/ending of a voyage?

Was this is a port of call, or the beginning/ending of a voyage? Ron, it was a port of call. Came from Dublin and went to Invergordon. Think it ended up in Hamburg Some photos from me (finally got round to picking some out!) Cheers, Dave

Dave, that's a very nice picture. The one with the Liver building in the background. Best I have seen of the cruise docking area. The building on the right hand side. (Orange, Grey, Glass) Is that the new cruise terminal?

You beat me to it, Dave while I was trying to find a photo with the marquee on! You can just see part of it here, on the left. Cheers, Dave

Temporary Ron, whilst new facilities are built further along the quay. They will not be ready for quite a while though.

Ron Southampton are miffed about Liverpool having ANYTHING to do with cruise ships visiting the port, pity they can not understand the fact that people want to visit Liverpool far more than Southampton. They are slow learners but should get there in the end as the Cruise business grows more at Liverpool.

I recently visited the Shipyard at St Nazaire where the QM2 was built.
A fantastic day out and great to see how production line techniques are used to pre fabricate huge sections of the ships in dry all weather conditions, followed by the assembly of them into a whole. The cranes and the hydraulics are themselves, wonders of engineering to witness.
Whereas the design, planning and construction of the ships is all "French" for the want of a better word, nearly all the welders are Polish and most of the other fitting out trades, such as carpenters, electricians, painters etc. come from other parts of Eastern Europe, but the finishing touches that give the passengers the levels of comfort and luxury the pay for, come from French artisans with the flair and "je ne sais quoi" for which they are famous.
After the boatyard trip there is time to visit the submarine pens, visit a sub, and if you still have time there is, in one of the submarine pens, a mock up of one of the liners that used to ply from St Nazaire to the USA in the hey day of sae travel. Mock up is a bit of an understatement because it feels so real and uncannily like the Windsor castle or the Reina Del Mar, both of which I travelled on several times. For such an ordinary industrial town there is a lot to see at St Nazaire.

Pity really the last huge Cruise Ship (section) Order for Camel Lairds ended up as a farce and resulted in the loss of jobs and everything else connected.
