heads up on latest Travelodge deals - spring sale starts at 06:00hrs 03/09/09 = £12 per room between 01/01 - 11/04/10. have stopped at Heathrow central (Cranford) RWY 27 end of the airport. rooms overlooking airport/approach - level 4 to 6 + even no's 04 to 10 (twins) levels 4 to 5 + even no's 24 to 38. Aircraft flag up at approx 400ft on SBS going past the windows. Parking = £5 for 24hrs (pay & display). local area = 3 pubs, several take-aways - plenty of mini-market shops & tesco express all within staggering distance - bus stop directly outside hotel. Have used this location for family trips as several hours spent spotting morning/evening & short walk/bus to hounslow east station for trips into london to do the family thing - (london city/science museum & then whatever the family wanted maybe)= train tickets approx £7.50 adults - kids £1 all day on trains /buses & discount on the boat trips.
before you ask I don't work for travelodge or london tourism board - I just think at £12 per room you just can't knock it.

Another good site to look at, I think it may have been mentioned before, is Plane-mad.com. It gives directions to a grass mound by T5 which is parkable. I stayed at the Jurys Inn last weekend which is next to Hatton Cross, right on the 27L approach and I would reccommend that as a good hotel to stay at. £39 per room, £8 breakfast and £7 parking. The rooms have a double and a single bed in each family room, and the free bus that you can use to get around the perimeter, stops just outside. Does the Travelodge have double or twin bedded rooms? This is an important factor for me as I don't fancy sharing a double bed with any of my spotting mates!!

Hi Keith, if you have a car, its gonna be easy!!! Go round the perimiter road from the visitors centre towards Hatton Cross, when you get to the last roundabout, take a left, this will put Hatton Coss tube station on your right. At the traffic lights, you'll be crossing the A30, you want to be in the right lane as you go across as you will be taking the first right, into Hatton Lane. Just drive for a min or two down here, and the first right is Mytrle Avenue, this is THE best spot for 27L. It is a residential road, so you will have to pick your parking spot with care, and will have to avoid blocking anyone's driveways! But use your common sense and I'm sure you'll be OK. If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me an email and we can have a chat!

usually doubles, but on spotting trips booking a family room which is the same price as the double room. You have a double bed, couch bed & a pull out bed. This is usually good for 3 adults without being too cosy. Have also used T5 travel lodge (located in an industrial estate the other side of M25) which can be ok for approaches 09 - top floors are better. but have found Heathrow Central has more local facilities & is more suited when family in tow.
