By no mean unique, but nevertheless impressive by its distance of over 4km, is the "Passage du Gois" between the island of Noirmoutier and the Vendéen mainland. This causeway is available for use 90 minutes either side of low tide. It is popular with tourists and with people who go out onto the exposed sand to collect all manner of sea foods. Refuges are provided for those who don't make it back in time, or more usually, for those whose cars get stuck in the sand or fail to start for some reason. When covered by high tide, the sea is deep enough to be navigable.

Ron,
Nice to see these pictures, when I was doing a refresher course in French a few years ago-A vous la France(BBC) they spoke of these poles that people could climb. Now I see them for real, always interesting to see your side of the channel keep the pictures coming.
