These photos bring back some memories of the steamer which plied between Liverpool, Llandudno and Menai Strait. Travelled on it at least 4 times. The journey round the Great Orme, Puffin Island and down the strait was quite spectacular, especially the turn just below the bridge. How many others remember it?
I bet, if it was navigable by large ships, it would be on the list of calls by cruise ships today.

I think all those of us of a certain age remember the St Tudno and St Seiriol. I believe the paddle steamer Waverley paid a couple of visits to Llandudno earlier in the year, but it was only passing through.

Remember seeing the wrecked remains of H.M.S. CONWAY, the former 'black&white' wooden-hulled prison-ship that ran aground while being towed to Conway. H.M.S. CONWAY was the last 'black&white' wooden-hulled ship (I believe?!) , H.M.S . VICTORY excluded, in the world! Here's a photo of the ship, while this is an video of the wreck! www.hmsconway.org/BTW, garstonboy were you visiting BUTLINS ?

Strange! I have a feeling I saw that ship somewhere. Maybe where it was wrecked. I just cannot fully recall, but now you made this post I am sure I have seen it. in 1953 I would have been old enough to have registered it.

No, I think we just went for days out. We did go to Butlin's in Pwllheli once, but I was too young to remember - thankfully! I don't remember the Conway incident, though.

There were three ships named HMS Conway the one Ron remembers was originally HMS Nile and was used as a training ship moored on the Mersey near Rock Ferry before being towed to the Menai Straits. She was being towed back to Birkenhead for repairs when she unfortunately was wrecked.
