I have been concerned for some time that our airport at Liverpool has been finding it difficult to regain its former passenger figures. There are many reasons but I put it to you the following factors are not irrelevant. 1;CEO Easyjet Mancunian--base at Ringway thriving--some ex LJLA routes transferred already--Lyon and Malta. Committed to LJLA and that is VERY good but extra routes and passenger figures are a concern.
2; Ryannair in a big deal with MAG regarding Stanstead---is it too much to imagine that this could reflect on MAG's relationship with Ryannair at their MRC northern base? With LJLA again sidelined. Again promised commitment is very good but when will we see the extra routes and passengers?
Eggs and two baskets comes to mind.
I KNOW the airport is thriving and providing an excellent service--I know the management team could not DO more but and there is always a but. I do wish we could get Jet2 to start package holidays--again they have a Mcr commitment that could become difficult if they were to open up at LJLA---Flybe--well nuff said--Norwegian--I hope they are getting everything possible to stay and then some. I am sure the management team are doing just that.
A bit of a rambling rant but has anyone else thought along the same lines?Or is altzheimers finally taking hold.

For sure, any MAG negotiator worth his salary would have a clause in the agreement with Ryanair, somewhere, which gives Manchester some sort of priority or heads up for new business . It might not be overt, hidden away somewhere, but you can bet your life that clause exists.
This is not to say that Liverpool will not prosper. The problem with all these things is that MCR had its head in the sand (nearly wrote something else!) for so many years, but finally had to come into the real world. Liverpool prospered in those sleepy Manchester times, far beyond its natural place, and thank goodness it did. LPL is now well established and will go forward to co-exist very well, but like Gatwick will never outsell Heathrow, Liverpool will never outsell Manchester.
