Does anyone remember a British Eagle open day in January 1968. There was a prize for the best model BAC 1-11 painted in British Eagle colours (you used the Airfix base model that came with British United decals). During the afternoon we were bussed across to the wreck of G-ARIY and there was a fire fighting demonstration - far more impressive than when seen from the balcony! In the summer of 1967, the Echo had promoted the event. I was on the balcony when a reporter and photographer asked me and a couple of other lads to pose - I am the one pointing at an imaginary aircraft. Does anyone recognise me or the other 2 lads? 42 years later I'm still spotting (I moved away from Liverpool in 1969) but thoroughly enjoy the nostalgia on this forum. Rob Attachments:

Yes I remember that,it was promoted by an Eagle BAC111 captain,Ralph Conn,a Canadian. he organised the whole thing ,there were some excellent models there, as you say based on the airfix 144 scale kit,but I think some of them were either made by the trade, or by experienced modeller parents, anyway it was called the, junior jet jockey jamboree, and yes it was a great day I still have my Eagle boarding card, for the event and my badge.I think the first prize was a day trip to LHR on a n Eagle 1-11 of course, and a tour around the BEIA station at Heathrow, veryMany years later, when I was working for a major british airline, I saw Ralph Conn again at Heathrow,he was a CAA line inspector, and I mentioned the event to him,he remembered but then said how Harold Bamberg had let everyone down, and ,that was the end of the conversation, hope that helps and thanks for the memory.
