Reading the paper today has left me furious at the state this country is descending into. or has already arrived at.
A failed Asylum seeker who arrived in the UK in 2004 and was denied and entry permit but as usual was then after legal arguments on his behalf allowed with his brother to be granted a temporary stay until 2014 (some stretching use of the word temporary I reckon).
He applied for with a solicitor for the council to fund his Commercial Pilots training and living costs somewhere around £60k, hos brother is funded to go through Uni at an not disimilar sum. all funded by the British rate payer I presume as it is the local authority having to fund this totally ludicrous use of money for people who could be forced out of the UK next year (unlikley I reckon).
I feel for all the born and bred budding pilots in the UK who scrimp and save beg and borrow to self fund flying training, I can imagine the local flying clubs chatting over this one, it also has opened a HUGE can of worms for similar claims which appear can not now be refused. Seems Xmas does come early for some.

Be careful mate--this could be classed as hate mail--expect a visit from the thought police any day now.
Has every British tax payer simply become immune to these ludicrous thefts of their money?
Another reason never to come back to live in the UK.
Is the BNP the ONLY party listening to the indigenous population?
I am not saying it can't happen in France but the FN would have a field day if it did.

Unfortunately, John, as you are an ex teacher and therefore have a so-called government pension, you are forced to pay tax in UK. (Not being allowed to opt to pay in France.)
You are therefore, even indirectly, paying for this guy's training.
How sad therefore, that as a continuing taxpayer, after 15 years of living outside of the UK, you will be denied the right to vote.
The UK is the ONLY European country that does this, and as far as I know the only western/civilised country, for want of a better term, that dis-enfranchises its taxpaying citizens in this way.
So much for the mother of parliaments and the cradle of democracy.
Ironically, for similar reasons, under legislation created by Gordon Brown (God bless him...how ironic is that sic!) I have moved my pension to Malta where it is paid tax free, but of course I do pay tax in France under the French/Malta double taxation agreement.
This means that a fund manager in Malta is now paid to look me, instead of Edinburgh as before, so its a loss, however small, to the British Treasury, but I do not see why I should be dis enfranchised and still be expected to pay.
This is how the UK looks after its loyal hard working citizens. We have come a long way since the "War of Jenkin's ear"
What a dilemma, when in many ways, your heart is still where you were brought up, where you were educated and obtained your moral compass, and where you raised your own family.

I haven't read this newspaper article,but what has a council( presumably you mean " local")got to do with funding pilot training? .Same question for uni entry.So, if I want to be trained to be a deep sea diver I just apply to my local council,yes?

mb, you could even become a bus driver if you want. You will need to be on the dole though. Merseytravel (funded by the local tax payer) is paying for the training in the hope of creating jobs. Not sure if it's succeeding in this or if it's just filling existing vacancies with extensively trained drivers. Lets hope the government throw some money Merseytravel's way and they expand their existing network in order that that their goal can be achieved. Here's an article about it. This decision has opened the floodgates of complaints, the Council concerned is Newcastle which has seen swimming baths closing and libraries being shut through lack of finance and cutbacks to save money. This outlay has obviously incensed locals, councillors and MP and people generally. My concern is that the law is on their side as being in care the local council has a duty to fund training that could lead to paid employment. This obviously has huge possiblities which will NOT be overlooked by many in the same position. The fact that these twoarrived in UK in 2004 WITH their Father who then abandoned them and this put them in care is the reason this situation has arrived. What was wrong with sending them home when the parent vanished is beyond me it was clearly a deliberate ploy. This now opens a massive chance for many people in the same boat to flood councils with applications for all sorts I suspect and will not be missed by those who delight in others paying for everything. The whols immigration/Border Control needs a massive kick up the backside. I mean who thought the idea that an illegal discovered hiding or working or living in the UK who can not produce a legal Passport to prove his or her ID must be released with conditons they report to the local Police or Border Agency must have been brought up in cloud cuckoo land as must of those release vanish without trace. It seems that this week even if you are a suspected Terror suspect whop is being monitored you are able to enter a Mosque, remove an electonic tag change into a Burkha and walk out and vanish from the map. Nick Clegg it appears from reports is the main culprit in masterminding the laxation of these rules and restrictions. We also have an army of Socially caring Solicitors who are more than willing to take payment to assist these idiotic claims.  |
