Can we have clear guidance as to what can and can not be discussed in this section. Who is the censor? Has free speech been struck another dastardly blow by the politically correct wimps.? This used to be a red blooded discussion section and all who contributed enjoyed the chance to rant without the fear of arrest by New Labour's thought police. Pity if it has bitten the dust--another nail in the coffin of liberty. I did not always agree with the opinions expressed but I will support the right for people to have diferent views and the right to express them. Hope we have not lost it. Information please would be very gratefully received and be of interest to many of our readers.

John,
As far as I'm aware, you (and anyone else) can open non-aviation topics in this section for lively debate, just as on the last forum.
I think you misunderstand what has happened regarding the suspension. The lad was posting irrelevant and unnecessary messages with very little text seemingly just in an effort to boost his "status" by posting every few minutes on Sunday morning (posts containing just a smiley or something). This got to the point where it was irritating our members and it had to stop. I think he now understands that the tools available regarding banning, temporary suspension and the ability to reset status to "0" are much stronger on this forum and he will hopefully have learned the error of his ways when the 7 day ban ends.
Cheers,
Dave

Well done, Dave. There has to be discipline if there is to be serious debate. At the same time may I point out that John Oakes message would have been just as effective if he had left out the "without the fear of arrest by New Labour's thought police" section. We don't necessarily need the political slant on an aviation forum - even if it is the NON-aviation section. I am enjoying having the Forum back. Thanks, again.

;D Don't tell me we have a New Labour supporter who cannot stand the justifyable critisism of his beloved government?
Just what we need ---a debate at last. And if not censored you can expect the clowns in Dowening St to get a lot more from me and many others on the forum.
This section does not always need an aviation slant but I could say what has happened to our aircfaft industry over the last 10 years of misrule and nepotism? Along withn the car industry, ship building train building, nuclear power station building etc etc all things we once held a lead with. And it is absolutely no good blaming other governments--in 10 yerars they have had PLENTY of time tov put things right.
Must send out the book Tony Blair my legacy (another blank page book. LOL)
Long live free speech.

Who said I was a Labour supporter? - not me. Methinks johnoakes has a political fixation. Without taking a political stance myself I think John should just look at recent history dispassionately: All the things he listed were undermined by previous governments. He may not like the look of the present Government but the alternative was: John Major, William Hague, Ian Duncan Smith (I had to think deep to remember that one) and Michael Howard. None of them inspire confidence and all got themselves out of the firing line when the going got tough. I am willing to back anyone who stands firm on political matters but I goggle in amazement when the - so called - popular press and the Opposition think that we will believe that the whole world financial crisis is the personal responsibility of Gordon Brown. Come on, folks, let's think for ourselves and not believe everything that the Daily Mail/Daily Express and the Redtops, who laughingly call themselves newspapers, tell us. Note that I said "tell us" - not report responsibly so that we can make up our own minds. Now back to my so-called allegiance to New Labour. As someone who has travelled the world, ran his own company and now lives very comfortably in retirement in the country, I should, by all standards be a Tory. I am not because I have never lost the ability to think for myself and make decisions which were in the best interest of a broader group than just me. Remember the "Me Society"? It was espoused by Mrs T and we are still suffering from it. So, ten years of misrule? - no, the malaise goes back further than that. Must stop here as lunch is being served by the good lady - my wife I mean, not Mrs T!
Without a doubt this will bring a response, and I am not betting on from whom!

Dave, you have my full support over this. I consider the action taken is fair & reasonable. I can recall the culprit behaving similarly in the past on the previous forum. I don't think any of us want to curb youthful enthusiasm for our pastime but hopefully he will learn and develop as a more meaningful contributor in the future.

Indeed and on the last Forum when I banned e-mail addresses it didn't work, they could just re-join straight away on the same address, so it was no sanction at all - not on this one though, as there is far more potential control and warnings available. Cheers, Dave

A closer look at the offender's profile suggests that his quoted MSN IM address is invalid, maybe his e-mail as well but that is hidden.

;D I do love champagne socialists(gauche caviare in France LOL) at least we can have a balanced debate with no holds barred. Really looking forward to locking horns in the future as the New Labour ship sinks under the weight of spin.
Thatcher the milk snatcher?? Didn't see free school milk being universally applied in the last 10 years-- but then I spent my time with poor working class kids avoiding the reality of the boardroom.LOL.
As for former politicians of any party-- they are too mediocre to consider and FAR too far in the past to be blamed for today's mess. 10 years is a very long time --ask Mandelson(in out ,in out shake it all about.LOl)-- and with New Labour it seems soooo long. But soon to come to an end. At least they can't be described as America's poodle as they used to call the |Tories.
I must stop as I am beginning to sound like a Tory--which I am not-- just an interested former politician with no party to support.
Could start a new one.
The common sense party or the honesty party ,honest.LOL
# But then no one would believe us.LOL
