Anyone see the report in the press today covering an alleged confrontation between a fully armed Russian Warship and the ONLY Naval vessel available {well nearly} if about 24 hours counts as available.
The Russian ship approached to within 30 miles of the coast and sat and waited in the area of the Forth of Firth apparently sheltering from bad weather but to all intent testing the UK defence times.
Apparently the RAF monitored the vessel but as the scramble message went to the RN the only ship was in dock at Portsmouth 600 miles away and it took 24 hours to make the emergency run.
An expert on Russian tactics mentioned the fact that Putin is expanding hos Naval and Air Forces and has already tested and pushed Swedish defences in the air. I reckon he wont have to test UK Defences any further.
Previous Governments total ineptitude in handling defence budgets along with Law and Immigration controls have sentences this country to an early demise.

It is sad but inevitable. There was a time when, if a British Citizen was attacked anywhere in the world, gunboats could be expected up the nearest river. Now British doctors are murdered in Syria with impunity, our borders have been breached on a massive and passive scale, Russian ships sit in our river mouths and the men of the former dominions have annihilated our cricket team.
Maybe, for some, its enough to have a recovering economy, but is that enough, if we have to be subjugated by a coalition of Cossack dancing, "put another shrimp on the Barbie" pork haters?

Surely this is just a ship sheltering in bad weather? Moreover, one ship is hardly going to be the start of an invasion and if it was a threat surely a Tornado would have been dispatched to blow it out of the water. Russia has enough instability of its own without threatening the UK with its fantastic economy and third world infrastructure.

How long would it take for the RBHAF (Royal Babcock and Hunting Air Force)to get a Tornado ready though?

"Cold war paranoia alive and well, I see."
Hardly a deduction from the facts, correctly made unless you are a supporter Putin and his crackpot ideas. But then again the I.O.M could make a successful invasion of the UK pretty soon.

Territorial limits, contiguous zones, economic exclusion zones etc all explained on Wikipedia at 12, 24 and 200 Nautical miles respectively: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_watersWhy do I get the feeling that given the amount of recent comments regarding what can be considered as "a lack of correct factual reporting", that the original article on which this discussion is based could be seriously flawed?
