With the viewing park closing at four, where could one watch the planes land of an evening at Manchester? Thinking of going over tonight for something to do...
Thanks,
Tom

If you drive, the southside has some good spots.
Head towards Wilmslow under the runways, then you will come to a roundabout just after. Turn left, park up somewhere on the side and follow the national trust path along and up the hill. Great views from there.

Isn't there a pub at the 23R threshold, used to go there a lot, is it still open?

I think it was called the Romper Inn many years since I last visited that watering hole, no idea if it's still open it was very popular in my spotting days ( 80's ) Cheers Les McS

The 'Airport Hotel' used to be a good hangout ,spotting in comfort .or carry on round to Moss Lane and down the muddy path .

TAS used to have an excellent guide to spotting locations around Manchester Airport on their website. Just visited www.tasmanchester.co.uk and find, somewhat to my amazement that that page no longer seems to feature. Seems rather odd for a major enthusiasts group not to have a 'where to go' feature on their "home" airfield.

Was he rolling around on the floor? I bet he missed his dessert as he could never finish.

Just to add to this ( a bit late for tonight) There is a new pub called The Flying Horse on Styal rd . good views / photos to be had.
If you travel from the airport past the airport hotel heading towards heald green to the traffic lights at the end of ringway rd . Turn left at the lights where the petrol station is and a few hundred yards its on your right, or its walkable from heald green station. Think its a hungry horse ( no pun ) chain geared up for kids/family food etc.
hth ?
Brian.....
may be limited on how long you can park for free, but possibly to park on access rd.

Is the Airport Hotel the one with a beer garden that used to back onto the approach lights? We used to camp there just behind the beer garden in sight of touch down in the 1960s to spot the Hermes Argonoughts and Yorks---and the odd Starliner--the days when aeroplanes looked different from each other.LOL Remember copping all the BOAC DC-7s and Britts there--happy days!
