When you look at all the places on Earth, i am amazed to find out this is happening in Merseyside. Syria chemicals to be destroyed in Ellesmere Port 'within weeks' Council sets up independent review in risks to the public Chemicals from Syria’s weapons stockpile are set to arrive in Ellesmere Port within weeks.
Waste management firm Veolia is expected to begin destroying the substances at the end of February.
The news comes as Cheshire West and Chester council announce plans for an independent review of the chemicals to ensure there is “no increased risk to the public”.Read more: www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/syria-chemicals-destroyed-ellesmere-port-6522868

Hi Rob, it was not the press that said it was Merseyside, it was me, you got me on a technicality as i thought it was the whole area as its on the Mersey it would make it Merseyside. Wikipedia also have Runcorn / Widnes listed as Greater Merseyside, which i have never heard of but i suppose its like Greater London and London. "Other nearby towns are not part of Merseyside, such as Skelmersdale, Ormskirk, Warrington, Runcorn, Widnes and Ellesmere Port (all parts of either Cheshire or Lancashire), but the designation "Greater Merseyside" has sometimes been adopted for Merseyside and these six towns unofficially. This also has a semi-official usage by some local authorities and organisations and is used by Geographers' A-Z Map Company for their Merseyside Street Atlas.[8] However, a separate 'City region', comprising Merseyside and Halton, has some official recognition as being Greater Merseyside, although it has also been referred to as Liverpool City Region. Halton also forms part of the Merseyside NUTS region." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merseyside

Speedbird The unofficial link ups are about to be made official pending an act of Parlaiment. Greater Merseyside is not yet in existence but is due to commence on the 1st April this year (2014). All it is is that Halton Borough Council will be integrated with the five local authorities that currently make up Merseyside. This also means that Runcorn and Widnes will no longer be part of Cheshire but no doubt will keep their current Post Codes. This will also be a good move for the airport as all it's land will be fully within Greater Merseyside giving it more planning scope and potentially better land transport links as Merseytravel will be taking over from Cheshire Bus. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Merseyside_Combined_Authority
