I was considering going to Sywell on Saturday but decided against it due to the windy conditions and the rain in our area so I decided to do a quick trip to the East Midlands to visit a few fields new and old. ;D indicates a new airfield for me.
DARLEY MOOR ;D
Full Access given 7 logged all microlights 3 of which were copped. There were a couple of wrecks behind the hangar which needed ID's of if anyone has any knowledge.
CARLTON MOOR ;D
Closed hangars locked
MAPPERLEY ;D
12 micros noted and copped the airfields was closed but I parked next to the RAM Air hangar which only contained 1. If you ever visit this airfield which shares with a riding school walk down along the hedge to the left of the hangar where you will find a barn called terminal 2 in side were the other ten I logged plus a few more.
WATNALL ;D
This airfield has about 20 based. All the hangars were locked but I managed to ID about 4 through the gaps of which I needed 3. This is one I will have to visit again.
Next was a quick visit to TOTON Bank to have a look at the sidings I had not been here for about 20 years when I was interested in trains but theres lots here if you are interested.
EAST MIDLANDS
Quick look around 7 copped including Spitfire G-RRGN which flew which was a nice surprise also seen was a Herc ZS-RSC? needs confirming. Believed to be based at Dublin- Can anyone confirm this as being the correct aircraft?
EGGINGTON
Full access given with a guided tour 4 copped quite a few of the based had gone down to Sywell.
TATTENHILL
Quite a few logged 5 copped. Inside the hangar could be seen a Wilga, ANY IDEAS?
CROSS HAYES ;D
Four of the club gliders were flying which surprised me as it was quite windy, but three were needed so it was a nice surprise.
ABBOTTS BROMLEY ;D
Last visit, but it was all locked up another one to revisit.
A good day with 35 plus cops. 6 new fields visited.
Happy Days
