I loved the colours of the Liverpool buses, see first photo, but the colours I remember most fondly from my childhood were the ones on A267 from the days of the number 10 route Prescot to Castle Street. I also remember from time to time traveling on some very old double deckers, also in the same colours. These were really old machines even in 1958. I think they were dragged out for the morning work runs. Virtually everybody traveled to work by bus, tram, bike or foot in those days. The route I traveled on these old timers was the 45 from Long View to Edge Lane. (ATE or Plessey as it became.) there were four in the mornings at, 07-20, 07-25, 07-28 and 07-35 and 4 in the evenings in the reverse direction around 6 -30 pm. Isn't it strange how I can remember that sort of useless detail from all those years ago? RT

I remember the AEC's being on the clockwise circular 26 and the Leylands being on the anit-clockwise 27. It was good to ride on these on the running day as it brought back memories of my school days travelling to Essemmay. (St Margarets's Anfield as it was then)

Just a little question for probably Ste-t, but what is the purpose of the upper deck bars on the front of the new buses I have seen on the 60 route (and others)? Not vintage buses I know but I was just curious.

Just a little question for probably Ste-t, but what is the purpose of the upper deck bars on the front of the new buses I have seen on the 60 route (and others)? Not vintage buses I know but I was just curious. Not sure if thats on the outside or in but I will assume its out. They are for protecting the roof and windows against all too common tree strikes. Not new to Merseyside however, as MTL had a policy of fitting them to their Northern Counties bodied Olympians. I'm not too sure but I think the final ones delivered to Gillmoss, before Arriva's arrival, also had the feature. If that was the case then all the Northern Counties bodied Olympians without bars (with the exception of Liverbus's two) were not new to Merseyside. I hope this answers your question Dave.

Thanks for your quick reply Steve, it was the ones on the outside I meant. With the councils reducing their tree maintenance I suppose this is a common problem.
