I'm very amused by the comment that people have changed little, compared to memory - these photographs are from 1978, a mere 31 years ago, so are contemorary with the memory!
I was hoping that someone else would step in an answer BobJan's question - so I would not offend those that I cannot recall (names have never been a strong point, despite my career).
In Dave's photo, the final one. From left to right ..... ----, -----, John Downey, Guy Woosey,......., Brian Billington, Mike Bishop, Martin Chell, Chris Moore, Phil Duckett, Phil Butler (PHB).
In the earlier photos, it is Brian Jones (BPJ) in the cockpit sporting a silly moustache and darkened photochromic glasses even in October - also with notebook by the CH-53s. Ken Ellis is in a green anorak, while the guy in the orange hat is Tony Wilson. I also spot John Price in the backgound of the island shot. The tall lad kneeling taking a shot of the unit badge may be Alan 'Dick' Roach's son. As for comments regards PHBs hair - well we all change in half a life-time - he has way more than I remember, while I had even less then than I thought! There is only the one PHB!
What is worrying is that at least three of the MAS party that day are no longer with us.
BPJ.

To fill in BPJ's missing gaps:- extreme left Steve Lloyd (some may remember his father Geoff a MAS and MSAE member), to the right of him is Ian Bird, the third omission I believe to be Richie Lloyd (a friend of Steve but no relation). Fourth from the left is in fact my good-self and not my nephew Guy whom does look similar. As you say it was 31 years ago!

Another thread which has brought memories flooding back!!
Some familiar faces there from long ago, some of which I have bumped in to at various locations since leaving the Wirral. Have to admit I don't remember Phil Duckett's beard, I'll have to ask him about that next time I see him ;D
Some happy times on the MAS sales stalls too including a very soggy Leuchars (1977?) when some of us went Liverpool - Leuchars via Yeovil!!
Also remember Home James coaches and their fondness for breaking down on the M6 on the way back from trips?

I was a MAS member during the good old 70`s when i was a teenager (14 in 1975) and remember some great weekends away on the MAS coach down to places like LTN/LGW/LHR amongst others. Ive just joined this forum and looking forward to exploring many blogs and photos.
for those with a good memory i joined in BA LPL at just 16 years old so after spotting planes for years i had an opportunity to get into the airline industry and the past 34 years have been amazing to say the least. This year I`ll be 50 and im still in the industry. It will be nice to hear from anyone who remembers me and also those great days at Speke. Cliff Fletcher / AKA Jetstar

What was the story around the Vampire T.11 that was at Speke. I believe it was WZ553, which having done some digging still just about clings to lilfe as a cut down cockpit section converted into a flight sim.

;My best MSAE trip was the famous 1 day trip to the Hannover air fair by Viscount in the 1960s Took my kid brother and he sat with the pilot most of the way--couldn't do that now. A great day out--PHB was there as I remember and RT I think.
Sadly no photos but \I would love to see some on the forum--come on PHB do your stuff. John

FYI, Stav was living in Cambridgeshire and still supporting Widnes RFC last time I saw him (around 2000 I think). I'm now in Buckinghamshire, flying gliders at Wycombe Air Park. Working again in Central London but no longer spotting (but did watch a Chinook at low level over the City earlier wishing I had a pair of binoculars!).

I know it has been a while since the last post to this forum, but I was a member of MAS briefly in 78/79 if I remember correctly and used to love vising the club room in the old terminal and reading the literature there. Ken Ellis incidentally was also my history teacher at Gateacre Comp at the time and the last time I saw him was in 2007 when I went to Duxford for the Flying Legends show and his FlyPast ahd a display set up. Greta days though back in the 70s and I think I spen tmore time spotting at the aiport than your average worker there!
