I was lucky enough to spend some time in Longyearbyen Savalbard duing june, which is 3 hours flying due north, from Oslo, I departed a wet Oslo Gardenmoen airport in a Norweigian Boeing 737-800 LN-NOR.it had been beautiful weather during my stay in Oslo, over the weekend, but the day of the flight to Longyearbyen was wet and miserable! The approach into Longyearbyen is down an S shaped fjord and is vmc,it is also spectacular,so make sure you have a window seat if you go. The eiscat Savalbard radar station, high above Longyearbyen, visable on one of the approach shots, this is a joint venture between a number of countries including the United Kingdom, they fire impulses at the sun,to further delvelop our understanding of our galaxy On the ground at Longyearbyen lufthavn, one of the worlds most northerly airports.
Lonyearbyen is the only town on Savalbard, and there are few roads outside the town, its also dangerous from weather and polar bears!so most visitors go on boat trips,or stay in town!this is an ice lake 10 minutes walk from the town. The road upto the EISCAT radar station, amazing scenery. I took this picture from the door of my hotel at midnight and the sun was shining!,the Radisson polar blue, the worlds most northerly full service hotel! The famous mileage post,at Lonyearbyen lufthavn. I flew back after a couple of days by SAS Boing 737-800 ln-rpr to Tromso in nothern norway, when I left Longyearbyen, the temp was 3 degrees,in Tromso,a 1hour 35 min flight way,it was 24 degrees! I continued my trip, down the Norweigian coast to Stavanger, then flew to Iceland, where I went back into the artic circle by Twin otter,I will continue this theme as soon as time allows. hoped you enjoyed the pictures, and thanks for looking

Calflier, great photos and a great experience for you but I think I would prefer to have the sun on my back while dangling my feet in the pool and drinking ice cool lager. Fantastic scenery though. No encounters with polar bears? Regards Beemer.

As said elsewhere:- Sometimes, in a day, a pilot sees more wonderful sights, than others will see in their lifetime. How lucky we are.
Given the unfortunate goings on in another part of the forum, this posting shows just how valuable it all is. The exquisite photos enable us all to share in aviation at its best. It's contributions like this that make it all worth while, and I for one, am grateful to those that have the time and inclination to share.
