With remaining holiday time running short, I made a determined attempt to get to this airport this morning, hoping to get better photos of the three derelict Dash 7's. Currently the only access to the Island airport is the world's shortest ferry crossing, all of 100 yards! The ferry is free to pedestrians. But first this is the nearest view of the aircraft from the adjacent waterfront; As the ferry approached the airport, the top deck gave a reasonable view of the three Dash 7's C-GNUY, C-GVWD, and C-GYTZ Then the first-floor level walkway to the terminal was good for some of the based light aircraft; Once in the terminal (landside) there were no windows or photo opportunities, but fortunately a kindly staff member suggested that a fire escape door led to the Hertz car hire compound! And to the favourite outside spot for smokers to congregate, as it turned out! Next to the Hertz compound was this Cessna floatplane C-GZJL. Beyond is the original 1930's hangar. And beyond, and nicely parked for photos were the three Dash 7's. Result! I wasn't bothered about the lack of sun today either, because the shots would have been into the sun. There was also a Porter Q400 on the nearest stand, so that made a good photos as well; C-GLQD The public side of the airport waterfront can be walked along, virtually to the other end of all the hangars and buildings, and I was told that good landing photos can be had from the far end. Also, somewhere amongst those buildings is the original 1930's Tower/Terminal, now restored as a publicly accessible GA terminal. Unfortunately I didn't have time to go and find out. And finally just a word about the airport's history. It was used during the war as a Norwegian-run pilot training airfield, and there remains a strong link to the Norwegian community.
