I've been told that 5 people didnt check in for the BE604 LPL-IOM flight earlier because they couldnt find anyone to check them in. Desk 38 was unmanned. By the time they found someone to help, they all had to buy tickets for a later flight.
Anyone care to explain ?

This is not really an issue that should be answered here !.The affected passengers will contact the airline, and its the airline will further investigate it .Not anyone on this forum.I am sure most readers will agree.

how about maybe they were late so check in had closed and the staff had gone to the gate i think they are stupid for not going to find anyone, rather than waiting at the desk. however, i know that one person was on time since i spoke to him. he was not in the same party as the remaining 4. a similar thing happended to me a number of years ago. in my case, the airport information desk admitted that the check in desk was unmanned because the agent had walked off. i would have hoped my case was a one off

Check in desks are normally manned from and to set times, then the staff go down to the gates to board the passengers. I used to work at LGW and this was the way it used to happen there! I would presume the system is the same. IF the check closed earlier than the prescribed time, the passengers will have a case against the handling agent, if they turned up late, it's their own fault!!!!
