A very enjoyable day out, courtesy of a £4.00 return fare web offer with Ryanair.
Flew outbound on one of the oldest Ryanair's (even though only 6 years old) EI-DAL, and returned on one of the newest, EI-EFL. Flight outbound was rough, with the seat belts sign on for all but a few minutes. The return flight was smother, until the turn across the wind beyond Widnes, when there was considerable buffet and two worrying drops - however the eventual touch-down was uneventful.
It was rather a windy day, increasing in strength as the hours of daylight progressed. However at 280 to 300 degrees, it was close enough to straight down the 28 centreline to worry few pilots - other than those flying ATRs! Blown drizzle with periods of heavier rain cut visibility right down at times during the morning making it miserable for observation and photography. Fortunately at midday it brightened and ever longer periods of sunshine followed all afternoon.
Traffic seemed a little slower than last time I spent a Saturday at Dublin a few years ago. On arrival, it might have been possible to stay on Pier D, but it would have meant a very long walk the wrong way against the flow to have accessed the other areas. On departure accessing the windows to view the apron is no problem the full length of the building. I opted to spend the day out in the elements abeam the turn-on point to 28 on the Swords road. Great place for late finals shots and ground photos (providing you don't mind fence posts tops in the bottom of the shot). Around a 35 mins brisk walk from terminal, the route is now complicated by the construction site and new roads to serve the new terminal. The new terminal has progressed very quickly, with much of the considerable glazing now in place,
Unfortunately, prize of the day, the An-12 arrived with the first rain and left during the heaviest shower, however the Croatian Citation waited to leave in the sunshine. The Delta Boeing 767-400 in Skyteam colours was unusual and provided comparison with the somewhat similar Star Alliance scheme on a MD-82 of SAS. The Primera, CSA and quite possibly some of the Spanish appeared to be operating IT flights f&t Dublin.
Any questions about Dublin, do ask, either publicly here on the forum, or by PM.
