There can't be many left flying by now. I remember it being delivered from Woodford to Niger - one of my colleagues went with it. It was one of the last built with a large freight door. The one thing I find strange is that the photo shows a square window whereas the 748 has elliptical windows. Maybe the photo is of another aircraft.

Just had a look at a few pics of the aircraft on the internet as SE-LIC in West Air Europe Service. The window in the crash photo is definately not from that aircraft.

Well spotted garstonboy. Just taken another look at the web site and the photo has been removed but all details remain the same - so must have been 748 5Y-BVQ/SE-LIC with the photo used being from a different crash.

Thanks ste - that's more like it! I'm pretty sure that this was the last 748 to come off the line with a large freight door. Initially, the Niger Air Force didn't want it, but a bit of work with a sharp pencil produced a deal!

As I understand it,the Indian Air Force still operates some several dozen 748s.

As I understand it,the Indian Air Force still operates some several dozen 748s. I think they are in the process of being withdrawn, would be good if one could find its way to the museum at Newquay or possibly air atlantique for pleasure flights painted in Dan air colours :-)
