Had a walk round Spike Island to see the progress on the New Bridge as you will see from the photo's progress seems to be slow but sure , as for the big orange structures I have not yet found out if they are reinforcements for the supports , from the position they are in I would say this is what they are.
The bridge for the lorries now extends out to mid river and another coffer dam is being built Piling further up towards the junction onto or near Moor lane

Corner on Waterloo Road were Handley & Becks stood for many years, remove last weekend.

I don't know if this is old news, but the BBC website is running a story about another bridge to be constructed in the Warrington area crossing the ship canal, to ease congestion in the town. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-31047325Kev

Kev it will probably be to avoid the swing bridge at Walton A56 that can be a bottleneck when a big boat is coming up the canal. Regards Beemer.
