What were the Brush Type 4's doing? 57601 looks to be having a fine time being shunted back and forth or did she pull 47787, breakdown and get towed back by 47851? Whatever they did, it's nice to see the old girls alive and rolling.
An interesting fact: Although only 45 years old, Class 47, 57601's production order was signed in September 1962, 47 years ago last month.

Brings back happy memories from my trainspotting days. The small brige over the railway at Winwick was the ideal spot to photograph trains, and log USAF aircraft on finals to Burtonwood, the glide slope approximating to what is now the M62.If you were a real Annorak, you could also log barges on the Sankey St.Helens canal which ran near to the railway bridge. The attached photo is a scan of one of my slides taken in September 1961.

Great picture of the dirty black thing, 45736. It really takes me back because that was the reality of most of the BR fleet. Not the nice shiny examples we see on the preserved lines today. (Yes I know the main liners were up to scratch, but as for the rest....) I used to travel locally, Lims Street to Prescot, and quite often Woodside/Chester/Wrexham/Chirk/Gobowen and then local to Oswestry. Grubby and unpleaseant. Full marks to those who keep the preserved lines running. The machines and the infrastructure are a credit to them all.

Hi Stu, not sure what the roads called, but just turn into B+Q at the M62/A49 junction and go across the mini roundabout. turn right at the T-junction and then first left to go over the bridge.

Most of the preserved locos are immaculate, and it just proves that keeping them clean wasn't so difficult after all!
