Nice to see no less than 12 'first visits' by cruise ships this year, including the new Britannia on 13th July. Highlight of the year will undoubtedly be the big three Cunard liners - QM2, Victoria and Elizabeth all in together on 24/25 May to celebrate Cunard's 175-year anniversary. www.cruise-liverpool.com/cruise-call-schedule/Kev

Thanks for posting. A nice presentation and a good video, but do I see that the cruise terminal is still, actually, a large tent?

Ron, as far as I am aware the innovative plans to use the ground floor of the Royal Liver Building have been abandoned, so yes, the Cruise Liner Terminal remains in a rigid marque style building closer to the cruise liner berth.
Had a 'Google' around - on the subject of the Cruise Liner Terminal most entries seem out of date. The 'Google' page map shows the terminal in the Albert Dock, while the Wikipedia entry shows a photo of the Cunard Building as the terminal! Could not locate the Echo comment on the Cruise Terminal move being withdrawn, it should still be on the web - somewhere.
Lots of good, seemingly well informed sites commenting on the 2015 visits programme though.

Talking to the information staff at the airport (who are Liverpool City employees from the tourism department) the Cunard building option has been discounted because of security problems getting passengers from there to the ship as it is outside a secure area. The facilities in the cunard building are ideal but are suitable to an age when security didn't reign supreme. Sad but that's the modern world for you.

That's really disappointing about the Cunard building. I imagined that passengers would be transported by bus, just like at airports. What's the difference?

Probably cost Ron, it always comes to this when the chips are on the table.

Probably the difference is that on an airport you are still within a 'sterile' environment which is relatively easy to secure. Achieving that same secure, sterile environment from the ground floor of the Cunard Building to the ship in a cost effective manner (and reflecting that the building is Grade 1 listed) would be nigh on impossible. Agree that it is a huge shame as it seemed a perfect opportunity to provide a quality facility.

Very impressive list of ships. Just shows the remarkable transformation of the whole of Liverpool over the past 10 years ish that makes us now such a fantastic tourist destination.
Is a proper cruise terminal part of the development for the next stage Peel have for the waterfront?

Is a proper cruise terminal part of the development for the next stage Peel have for the waterfront? Its on the cards,Cunard buildings were proposed, but shelved due to security issues,so a purpose built terminal, will need a closed link to the floating terminal already built, but not realy suitable for originating cruises,so on the corner plot on Princess dock, near the Titanic memorial is best bet, hope its annouced soon!

Article in the Echo Wednesday in an interview with the Cruise Terminal boss is very encouraging she stated that she has secured a deal with Disney Cruises for two visits in 2015 and estimates a £1/2 million cash input into the region. I also have a friend who is employed on Cruise ships and tells me Fred Olsen are doing transatlantic runs to Canada this year from LCT. which as she says is brilliant and saves her a massive drive to S`Hampton which she tells me is a real hole and no longer a safe place to wander around due to the mass influx of illegal foreigners and criminal elements. More power to LPCT to attract ships.

Sorry was trying to multi task and mixed the dates. Still good news though and shows some long term comittment is coming forward from Cruise Lines. I am hoping P&O will join the queue to start cruise holidays from North of Watford.
