Hi Folks, Some more of my wife's late father's slides. First one is entitled Fruit Sellers, Pier Head 8th September 1962. My dad used to have a Ford Anglia in maroon and grey like that in the photo. If anyone is interested in the bus fleet numbers, the No 75 to Huyton is L56 and the 73B is A733.  The second shot was taken 12th May 1966 and is entitled Water Street from New Parade Pier Head. The No 30 bus to Aintree is A111.  Cheers, Dave |

I'm not a bus fan but those slides are wonderful as portraits of an older Liverpool. I once owned a maroon and grey Anglia too! Like to see more please.

Thanks for sharing them with us Graham.
I particularly like the photo of A111, an AEC Regent 5 with Alexander bodywork. This was my favourate type of bus. Although none have survived the closest to it is the one I used to look after (L161) which is a Leyland Titan PD2/20 with the same body.

Just great--sadly some of us oldies still remember the trams from Huyton--past the Old Swan depot--then on to the Pier Head for the boat over to New Brighton.
Now photos from that era would really make people sit up.LOL-- I even remember altering the direction of the wooden slatted seats.
Happy ,happy days that seemed so less complicated.
As an ex clippie any old bus photos are ok by me but trams---that's a different dimension.
I even travelled the entire Grenoble tram routes(A,B,C and D LOL) in a day on a rover ticket.
Must get some photos to post.

Steve the photos are great as are the links.
I have on old book on trams that features many of the Liverpool services.
Great memories--bet we all wish we still had the trams-- the modern ones here in France are really super and shift people well in rush hour far better than cars or buses.
Next visit to Grenoble or Lyon I will get some shots for devotees of a wider transport interest.
When I visit Barclays in Grenoble the system is that you park the car and ride--car parking is €2 for the day and they give you 2 free tram passes. Not a bad deal.

steve 161 is on the list to be restored in the coming year so might be out soon enough.
main attention at the moment is panther 1054 which you most prob have drove and xl171 airporter.
some nice pics on there dave

That park and ride sounds great and at at about £1.80 return (incl parking) is superb value for money. I wouldn't mind betting its very well patronaged. We have the ability to do something like that here but for some reason the powers that be have different ideas about the tramway system. We may not actually need trams if we buy the bendy buses soon to be on sale from London. Lombard are selling 31 of them later this year and at just 7 years old have plenty of life left in them. If Liverpool or any other City are serious about getting people out of their cars, the only realist way at present is through park and ride. |

Its a pity I didn't have the money to keep her but placing a roof over my families head took priority at the time. Still glad she's still with us and soon to be back on the road. Are they going to put her back in City Circle livery as I had intended of just the plain old corpy green? Steve |

ive no idea at the moment as the panther airport and regent A36 are taking up the time at the moment. mtt aquired a new vehicle from stagecoach manchester on friday and got one from arriva aswel

Actually, John, just a bit out there. The trams from Prescot went past Old Swan, via Longview and the Bluebell pub, Page Moss etc. The number 10. It was a great ride down Prescot hill if you had a driver up for it. Used the 10 many times. Then it became a bus route
From HUYTON, the nearest trams was the 6A which stopped at Bowring Park, and I think was the last route in service.
Thanks for putting those bus photos up Dave. I loved the green of the Liverpool Buses. Crossville were similar. How it seems like only yesterday to be racing off the ferry, almost before the gangway was properly down, running or walking up the floating bridge depending upon the angle of slant, and onto the bus for home. The 10c which went as far as Longview, or the Crossville 119 (Direction Warrington) before it became H something.

if you like the liverpool corpy buses you might like to come to the mtts route tour on 12th april(easter sunday) starts at 11 from outside ship and mitre pub on dale street

As we came from StHelens we must have come on the 10 from Prescot. My geography of Liverpool is imperfect--I always think of |Huyton as where you used to live and the |Prescot tram did go past there and the college I later attended. For some reason I thought we caught a bus from Prescot down to near the college and Lyme Cross Rd to get on the tram--don't remember going up or down Prescot hill to connect with the trolley bus back to StHelens. This would be about 1951 I guess.--and memory does play tricks and forgets chunks of things--and runs things together as if they were all on the same day. Mind you how is this--your old phone number 051 HUY 2359 not bad for nearly 50 years.LOL Hope Liverpool does go for the trams not those horrid bendy buses--although some will like them no doubt.-beauty in the eye etc--trams would be a much better solution and make a real 21st Century statement.

Almost right again John, my old 'phone number was HUY2359 (051 had not been invented then.) When the 051 came in we were changed to 489 (Still HUY of course.)
Yes, the number 10 tram went up to Prescot, single track up and down the hill, and it stopped just past the Hope and Anchor pub, turning into the St Helens road. To catch the trolley bus 8 or 9 ( I think. 8 went one way round a circular route and 9 the other) you just walked around the corner to a stop opposite what was the CO-OP.
I never went to St Helens very often, People said they were a rough lot down there.
The Crossville buses stopped just outside of the Hope and Anchor in Prescot
119 Warrington, 116 116A 116B 116C via Whiston and/or Dragon Lane/Cross lane/Windy Arbour/Huyton (take your pick..they went all over the place and slightly differently each time..)and then via Bowring Park, and Wavertree to Liverpool Pierhead.
