It looks like work is finished on the new pathway (part of the Mersey Way)from Dungeon Lane down the shore of the River Mersey. They have made a great job of it and hoping it doesn't become a dumping ground and a 4x4 track. Looking from the shore towards Dungeon Lane.New path 2 by tommoxxx, on Flickr Being tried out by Meerkats.New path by tommoxxx, on Flickr ....and old men on electric bikes. You standing in a very historic place. It is the moorings for what used to be a salt works. It was also used by local fishermen and when the slat works closed it became a ships graveyard. Amongst the vessels scrapped there was a Victorian warship called HMS Resistance. No doubt Beemer will remember it well Here's a little article about it; www.roydenhistory.co.uk/mrlhp/local/salt/dungeon.htm

How about names for the three musketeers, say from left to right as viewed. Nice pics, by the way. Hope the 4x4 thugs can be kept away.

Looking at the pathway would make a good toboggan run in winter, providing you can stop at the bottom.

Why did they build a salt works so close to 27 approach? As daft as building Speke Hall where they did. Did these people not consider the impact of their construction and habitation on the airport?

G-PHIL. You are taking "Bulldog's" very 'tongue-in-cheek' post far, far too literally. After all the Airport is so important to us all, how dare anyone back in history do things and build on the land that might constrict current activity!

Cheers Brian, My post obviously meant to be a demonstration of humour. For info G-Phil born and brought up as spotter. Same age group as the Meerkats on the mound. Keep meaning to go down but as I live in Hale too easy to watch from garden.

Looking at the nice new tarmac strip, and seeing the tyre skid marks it seems the local potential F1 motor cyclists have already done a top gear test.

Reminds me of an American visitor overheard at windsor castle just as speedbird001 (concorde) roared overhead ' geez whyd they have to build the castle so close to Heathrow' :-)

There is also the story of a group of American tourists being taken around Canterbury Cathedral. One of them asks the guide, "Where abouts was Thomas a Becket shot?" (He died in 1170)
