Ron's sister Joan who I went out with for a while in the 1960s was the image of Cilla and sounded just like her. Thankfully Joan ,who is still a good friend,is still going strong.
Sad loss Cilla.
A good singer and a great character--we just don't make them like that anymore.
Missed by millions.

There are quite a few people around,me included, who do not have such a great view of her.Different person when not in front of the camera altogether.

There are quite a few people around,me included, who do not have such a great view of her.Different person when not in front of the camera altogether. Well, she's not unique in that! In my working life, I have had the opportunity to meet 'celebrities' from many different backgrounds and disciplines. Some were exactly as you would expect, some were exactly the opposite. I'm not going to name names on an open website, but this whole celebrity nonsense in the UK drives me nuts, frankly. They are not different from the rest of us - just luckier perhaps.

I liked Cilla's songs, and her singing voice. Not so much her TV presenter role, but above all, she was about my age and part of my youth as no doubt many on this forum will agree. I was fortunate to have frequented The Cavern club from time to time, although to be honest, I never saw any of the really famous groups play there, but her passing makes me somewhat reflective of where all the years have gone, what a good life I have lived and determined to keep at it a bit longer. I admire all artists and musicians who make their way in the world, against the perceived wisdom of others.

I feel much the same way and as someone who remembers her from her early days at the Cavern, I find it rather sad. The song of hers which I have always liked is 'Liverpool Lullaby'. For me, it encapsulates the Liverpool of the 1960s, in both the way of life at the time, together with the inevitable Scouse humour. I'm not going to post the link, but for those of you who aren't aware of the song, just go into YouTube and put in the title.

On a related topic, but somewhat different, last night I saw the film AMY about Amy Winehouse. Being a jazz fan,** I loved her singing, but it wasn't until I saw her life story I realised that this talented young woman was led astray, used and abused by those who should have loved her and supported her. What a waste.
** Which is why I was in the Cavern so often. It was originally a venue for jazz / R&B
