thats very interesting and thanks for post from someone that cant get very often to LPL. Used 26 /08 many many times in 70's and 80's. The most interesting was in a BM DC9 - 15 from LHR landing on 26 - in I guess the 1980's. 27 under urgent repair - surprised it was still licensed for the visual approach.

It's such a lovely place to drive through, I do it as often as I can.
The workers feed the ducks and swans, and there is lots of other wild life.
When I go the the gym, it is on the upper floor of the old hangar, and you can look out onto the Britannia.
For those who remember the old hangar, then the ground floor houses a large and very warm indoor swimming pool, with a steam room a jacuzzi and a sauna.
Outside there is another heated pool and tennis courts.
There are indoor tennis courts, then there is a mid level floor which is a cafe / restaurant amd t.v. lounge, whilst the upper floor is the torture chamber with all of the keep fit machines, weights and exercise areas.
Nice photo's Steve.

Thanks everyone, glad you all like them. I too love driving through there, especially at night or earl morning. As John says the wild life is fantastic and its amazing what you can catch in your head lights. Most of the birds are awake throughout the night and you often see herons hunting in the dark with the owls. Quite a few foxes too and although there is an abundance of hares, rabbits, and stoats, I saw one a few months back with a crow in its mouth. Not sure if it had killed it or picked it up of the ground. I've even watched as a seagull killed a crow by circling over head waiting for it to take off then swooping down and striking it on the head with it's beak, so tinged with a little sadness too but then, thats life for you.

ah nostalgia!" What beautiful shots--must have a wander down there later this month when I come over to see my daughter son in law and grandson.
Staying overnight at one of the airport hotels--will take a few photos for the web.
