taken from the Bbc news site...
A Hawker Hunter plane has crashed at Shoreham Airshow in West Sussex and hit several vehicles, police say. Sussex Police said there are several casualities, but do not know how many or what condition they are in. The plane is believed to be in a bush and the A27 is closed in both directions. It is likely to remain that way for the rest of the day. Eyewitness Stephen Jones said the plane did a loop but did not complete it and crashed. Other spectators have been told it could be "several hours" before they can leave the area. line.

Very sad. Performed a loop and crashed on the A27 hitting several cars, causing a massive fireball. Thoughts with families.

The Hunter's pilot, now named widely across the media as Andy Hill, is very lucky to have been pulled alive from the wreckage although he is in a critical condition in hospital.
His name jogged something in my memory that he had been the pilot of the Jet Provost for its display at the Southport Airshow in 2014. I reported on the thread for the show at the time that during the Saturday display the performance was aborted after a late pull up heading towards the crowd line. The commentators at the time speculated that changing meteorological conditions were probably the reason the display was aborted, being stood directly in the trajectory of the aircraft at the time I had my doubts. Various contributors to a 'Youtube' video of the event and posters to the airshow.co.uk forum had the same thoughts.
My thoughts go to all those who have died and their families and I wish Andy a speedy recovery.
Regards, Garry

The truth is we don't yet know, why the Hunter crashed,a very experienced pilot like Andy Hill, would not have put himself, and his aircraft in danger in any way,I am sure!,we will just have to wait for the official enquiry to conclude its findings.

An article in the Daily Mail to day Thursday and comments from a so called "Aviation Expert" supportede loo by a photograph of the Hunter at the top of the loop, showed a bright light similar to a flash apparently from the jet engine and suggested it proved the aircraft had suffered an flame out and that was the cause of the crash. ?
I have looked at numerous videos of the aircraft during the display and one particular one on You Tube the sun reflects off the body of the Hunter several times and quite brightly. not one of the videos shows this so called flame out flash ,not one video shows the flash as shown in the press photo. The sound of the jet is also continuous before during and after the intended loop. The only way to discover the truth if possible is allow the CAA AIB to complete the investigation, and stop speculating.

A sad event, and my only comment is to deplore some of the so-called experts that the media have rolled out to pontificate on this. With one exception, they have added nothing to our knowledge and contributed enormously to the suspicion, fear and doubt about flying at air displays and flying classic aeroplanes.

I completely agree, Ron. I have met a few of these so-called 'aviation experts' in my time, and they talk as much drivel off-screen as on it. There is one in particular who is rolled out on a regular basis, for which he pockets a lot of money over a year - I know this for a fact. I will not name names, but he is on a lot. The only one I treat with any credibility is David Learmount. Sadly, the sight of orange and black is just too irresistible for today's new editors, who are always looking for something to grab the public's attention and increase sales or advertising revenue. This then magnifies the whole accident out of all proportion. What happened is undoubtedly very sad and unfortunate, but we should not lose sight of the fact that at least five people are killed and 62 seriously injured every day on our roads and we have one of the best road safety records in the world. Does anyone know of anyone who is afraid to get into a car?
