Was the spur ever used as a 'sanitation pan' or has it mainly been used as an aircraft parking area? Can it still be used to park aircraft. I think I noticed the distinctive 'X' at either entry recently, meaning its out of use? Also what will become the remindants of the old taxi link to old north field site. There is still some length intact, although a fence appears to cross over it.

Hi Geeforce, The "spur taxiway" as it was called is no longer used by aircraft, the main use is for fire/rescue practice and dumping rubbish on ie: old baggage trucks and equipment for a/c handling. If you take a stroll around Speke Halls earth mound it will give you a good view of the "link taxiway, the Spur and 09-27 runway. Vangaurd.

The 'Looking for Old photographs' thread has some recently added Dave Graham shots of aircraft using the spur during the late 90s before the GA apron was constructed and the area of the main apron was relatively small.

I think that some of the shots above with aircraft taxying are of the link taxiway which joined the old and new airports via the link around the Speke Hall bund.
I thought the spur taxiway was the section closest to the bund where the Fire training rig etc are shown??

Has anyone any pictures of aircraft actually taxying or holding on the spur ? There was an old centre line-suggesting it was used for this purpose, rather than for just parking or 'sanitation' although for the latter, there is no evidence it was build for this purpose.

Hi Geeforce, the "spur"was used when the Pope came here, all flts operated from there on that day, also Air France Concordes when they first came as it was the only place it could be parked due to the weight loading of the wheels (the LCN),unfortunately i have no photo's. Vangaurd.

Good photo's on the "link taxiway", especially the Interflug TU-134a as i remember the 1st one with the perspex nose, there was a bit of fog that day and the pilot wouldn't div to MCR. once again nice. Vangaurd
