The Burtonwood Heritage Centre at Gullivers World has taken delivery of the nose section of C-54 Skymaster N31356 c/n 42419 and will display it as a tribute to the Berlin airlift...it arrived on 9th December from North Weald where it was one of the 2 there for an aborted film project. a further visit was made on 10th to Southend to collect an engine..prop and more items for display and call in to N Weald again to check some measurements etc....the museum is outside Gullivers World so is viewable by driving into the car park .....please don't just drive through.....the museum is WELL worth a visit so please support them...well done to them for saving it.......a fitting tribute....

Agree it's good news for the museum but sad the aircraft is no more. Flew in to North Weald in June 2003 for an Air Britain Fly-In in my mate's Jodel from Barton. Both the C54's were apparently in flying condition at that time. Am I showing my age if I say it should be in Starways colours and kept at Speke with the other airframes?

In an ideal world yes to the Starways suggestion for Speke but the sheer cost of transporting it to Speke and then having it out in the open needing constant weatherproofing etc would be mind blowing..the Burtonwood Museum have the Gullivers people on board who see the museum as an asset to the park and I believe help greatly with uility costs etc.

Does anyone know if the 2nd DC-4 is still at North Weald?

Following a chance Facebook find, a short trip across the M62 had to be made with Mr Airbus. Upon arrival & despite their website indicating a 14:30 opening, we were told the Centre was in fact closed until February 14th, we were however kindly offered a quick '5 minute lookaround'. Whilst it is not the largest of facilities there is much to be seen in there - from the many related artefacts, to aero models, engines, old pictures .. you get the idea. The DC-4 looks good on its Nose Landing Gear & we were told that cockpit visits are normally available - it's hard to believe it has been there 8+ years ! We will definitely be returning ! Cheers
