So they clear an area and amongst the many reasons given was in case an aircraft lands short in an emergency and then put huge concrete blocks there.....simples!!!!
Big difference between a 2m solid earth bank and a 50cm high unsecured concrete block - which are only likely an interim measure to prevent cars, vans and wagons stopping on the newly level ground ie larger objects complete with people and their own supply of flammable liquids! The block
The blocks are a temporary In the New Year when the over run strip is laid the airfield fence will be moved to enclose the area and the blocks will be removed no traffic will be allowed beyond the Flying school road

A RUNWAY safety zone is to be extended in Hale after an aviation watchdog order to reduce the risk of planes crashing into ramblers and farmers despite residents’ protests.
Halton Borough Council’s development control committee approved Liverpool Airport’s plans to shut off Dungeon Lane and Ashtons Lane and divert traffic along Baileys Lane, which is to be re-opened.
The move comes after the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) demanded that the zone be expanded to fall in line with safety legislation.
The agency said the current area is not big enough to prevent an overshooting plane from colliding with pedestrians and vehicles on Dungeon Lane.
Residents on Baileys Lane have opposed the plans, arguing that an alternative route could be created to connect Hale with the airport and that the approved plan is ‘doing things in a cheap way’.
They told the Weekly News that 22 properties have already been demolished unnecessarily.
Halton MP Derek Twigg and Hale councillor Mike Wharton also objected.
Resident Christina Coleman told the Weekly News Baileys Lane is not wide enough for traffic and that re-opening the road could bring back, fly-tipping and drug offences that had once blighted the thoroughfare.
She said: “The alternative is to not re-open Baileys Lane. Through traffic to the airport and farms is going to be going down an 11ft-wide Baileys Lane to Dungeon Lane.
“If there is a walker heading down there at the same time she will have to jump into the hedges (when vehicles pass).”
A planning report concluded: “The proposals offer a sustainable way by which Liverpool Airport can achieve the necessary safety standards to operate effectively in accordance with policies of the Halton unitary development plan, the designing for community safety and national planning policy framework.”
