According to signs alongside this road , the dual carriageway approach flyover leading on to the Widnes side of the bridge will be PERMANENTLY closed in both directions from 29th March 2016 (and presumably demolished ?). This means that all traffic will have to route via the roundabout. Chaos is bound to ensue , to the extent it will hardly be worth even attempting to drive anywhere near this area for years , unless you have the odd hour to spare. Even more incompetence !

Yes Keith you have to leave the Ford Road/ Route 7 at the junction and down to ground level, around the roundabout and back up the bridge slipway. Temporary traffic lights have been installed on the roundabout to control the traffic. If you use this route on a regular basis you will know what it is like between 07:00hrs/ 09:00hrs in a morning. Very busy. What is it going to be like when all that chaos has to come down to one lane controlled by traffic lights? I am afraid my visits to LJLA will be few and far between in the future. Regards Beemer.

Beemer, I'm not quite sure how you figure everything is coming down to one lane? Don'tg et me wrong, I'm dreading the impact on my daily commute but I have to give the Mersey Gateway team credit for the way traffic has generally kept flowing through the construction work. Traffic will be diverted off the dual carriageway onto a two lane slip road, round a three lane roundabout and back on another two lane slip road. The challenge will be traffic volume (no change there!) and making sure traffic can join the main flows from Halebank and Widnes.

Already cross-examined 'Beemer' on this one as I had the same question regarding lanes. Seems we are all correct depending on if you consider the current road markings, or the potential width of the slip road if/when re-lined.
At present the slip-road up from the roundabout up to join the Bridge traffic is white-line marked down to a one lane road. Now that the slip road is no longer joining traffic, hopefully it is wide enough to be re-marked as a full two-lane road.
Having the through traffic, which is constant and heavy at (and even outside) peak periods re-directed down to a standstill at traffic lights is going to lead to massive queues, although maybe slightly shorter queues as the four lanes come down to two just prior to the bridge (the traditional 'choke-point' on the Bridge's Widnes side).

Works actually start at 7.30 in the evening on Easter Monday. Speke Road southbound from Liverpool will be closed overnight until 5am from the Ditton slip road to the Ditton Road roundabout slip road with traffic presumably diverted via Everite Road and Ditton Road.
On 26th to 28th Moor lane will be closed in both directions and also Ashley Way between Victoria Road and Moor Lane - this latter closure will be for approximately three months.
A bit of good news is that Lower House Lane (at McDonalds) will reopen on the 29th. You will only be able to turn left out of Lower House Lane.
Should add to the chaos a little !!!! All from the Mersey Gateway site.

I go from Runcorn to Garston and back daily for work. To say that I'm looking forward to this is an underestimate!

They took out the reservation at the top of the slip road a few weeks back, my assumption has been that this will facilitate two lanes of traffic.

Yes the flyover at the Moor Lane roundabout it due to be permanently demolished, and chaos will ensue. Some of us who live in Widnes, and go to work every day have to put up with it on a daily basis. If it disrupts an occasional trip to Manchester Airport, then common sense should prevail and an alternative route should be sought, use the M62, M6 over Thelwall viaduct, then the M56. Why sit in traffic jams for hours ? Where does incompetence come into it ? It is a major construction project and disruption should be expected in the short term ! When the new bridge is completed you will have to pay to use it (unless you live in Halton borough) so if you object to this you will have to find an alternative route anyway. I agree completely with Andy H's comments on the lane markings, it is two lanes on the slip roads, and three around the roundabout. Up to now Mersey Gateway have done well in staggering the works, and keeping disruption to weekends.
