Thomas Cook sport, who operate the fans charters for both Liverpool and Everton, are running their flight to Bucharest for Liverpool fans on 25th February from Manchester. The 2 charter flights to Lisbon for Everton fans are both going from Liverpool.
There's been critisism of Thomas Cook for a while over the prices they charge, the LFC fans union Spirt of Shankly met with them some time ago and were told that profit margins are very low and it costs more to operate flights from Liverpool given non based aircraft are being flown from other airports in first hence extra crew times/landing fees etc. A month or so back they sent a survey out to all fans asking their opinions, it was obvious from the survey questions they were considering Manchester departures, as they were asking how much less people were happy to pay to go from there instead and would it help if coaches were laid on.
Lo and behold, this latest trip is going from there, at £289 for a one night stay, considering they charged £285 to go to Florence in September for the day, its not too bad considering, except for the departure airport. Go to Thomas Cook site to book and it actually asks if you'd like a Liverpool departure, but it'd be £50 more and is subject to enough requesting it.
I've no idea if Everton fans were ever sent a survey, but without wanting to start an argument about fanbases I wonder if Thomas Cook are bargaining on the fact many LFC fans would find Manchester just as convenient to get to anyway.
I find this very sad indeed and will now on stubborn principle do all I can to avoid booking on that flight, even though lo-cost options are extremely limited unless you go from London or have the luxury of being able to go for 3-4 nights.
