how much lower is the new bridge in relation to the old bridges?

The new bridge rises as it crosses the Mersey. The Widnes (Spike Island) end is lower than the Runcorn side - which helps create clearance over the MSC, and the land is higher on the south bank too. The MSC clearance will likely be the same as the lowest bridge along the MSC route - why spend money to raise the new roadway any higher than you need?

The THEA II, a container ship that carries wine to Eccles passed under the machine (Webster)that is laying the road over the MSC and they had all the interested parties watching to see what the clearance would be.The base of the machine is 10' lower than the finished road.
