Following on from another thread on the "green" subject, I thought it was worth stating the obvious re events in Haiti. Thank god for aviation. Without aeroplanes and those that operate them, these poor people would be well and truly stuffed. Life is bad enough there at the best of times. It must be desperate beyond words at the moment. Whilst I am at it, could I ask, apart from the USA, what other nation could deploy an aircraft carrier at such short notice: a carrier with helicopters, and a water desalination plant to name just two of its asserts. And what other nation could scramble a hospital ship, with 12 operating theatres, 1000 beds and facilities equivalent to a UK regional hospital. staffed mostly by volunteers, including interpreters for the doctors. But amid all this generosity, the key to doing anything at all, has been aviation.
