Great pictures, I started going to manchester in 76 / 77 just as the air france caravelles were finishing. What I would do to go back in time with a camera - when the piers were open and there were so many different shapes flying around. I didn'y actually start photographing properly until about 81. I do remember the Aer Lingus 1-11 in their last colours and the Cyprus 1-11's.

Another visiting Air France Caravelle, taken in November 1978. F-BJTQ I also remember Sabena and SAS Caravelle being scheduled along with regular charter flights by Aviaco. Cheers Shaun

I remember the Air France Caravelles had amber coloured windows from the outside. First Caravelle flight for me was in a Sterling (ex United) aircraft MAN-CPH in July of 76.

Hello folks Another wet Sunday afternoon means another opportunity to scan some slides. Todays are from Ringway on October 16th 1977, looks like it was a div day. It just reminds me how close you could get to the aircraft when we had access to the top of the piers ...Oh, for a decent camera in those days! G-ASJE BAC 1-11 201AC British Caledonian A4O-VG VC10 1101 Gulf Air. This VC10 went to the RAF as ZA141 after conversion to a K2 at Filton, this may explain the lack of titles as it changed ownership two months later. CF-CPL DC-8 63PF CP Air F-BTGV Super Guppy Aeromaritime G-AWNJ B747-136 British Airways. Still retains the BOAC cheatline. G-ATWV B707-336C British Airways Cargo EC-CIZ Caravelle 10R Transeuropa Cheers Shaun

Is the "F-BTGV Super Guppy Aeromaritime" the predecessor to the Beluga? The size of that thing with 'only' props to power it seems much more precarious than today's equivalent, tho I guess it's just a visual thing
