What a sad end to a great boat. I, and I suspect a lot of the forum members, enjoyed happy times on the boat as a ferry and as a disco night out on a "cruise" out to the mersey bar. Great memories. Ian.

There was hope that it could be returned home to the Mersey, looks like that won`t be achieved now.

What a shame. I remember the Iris was the only place you could get a pint on a Sunday afternoon sailing from Pier Head to New Brighton as it was deamed "at sea" and not subject to the licencing laws. happy days.

There is a group formed on Facebook which goes under the name of Bring The Royal Iris Back Home!!!!!.
May be worth joining if you would like to see the old girl back on the Mersey.. they seem to be having quite a lot of Media exposure, with TV and radio.
They have spoken to the owner as well, and have an MP involved.

I remember those days well John. Its amazing to think we actually swam in the Mersey at this point. When I was with the MPTE we used to have our Safe Driving award presentations on her. I also used to watch my younger brother (Graham) play gigs on her in the early 80's. Not sue if anyone on here used to watch him but if you did this link will bring back memories. Pity his photo page isn't available at the moment. There are some great shots of the group at various locations throughout the city. However, some of these can be viewed in the slide show on his home page. If anyone likes a particular song you can download the full version (free) by clicking on the album covers on the left and selection the one you want. www.noexit-thevow.co.uk/

another vessel which should be saved looks as if shes gone aswel. former clubship landfal a d-day landing craft which has been in west float dock for sometime and was part of the Historic warships group until they liquidated a few years ago. She was recently moved from were she has been sat for many years and since being moved has now sunk upto the cabin.
