I notice many of us members of this forum travel or have traveled extensively around the world, for business or pleasure. Where have you been that you could happily settle down for a good life? I lived at Malmesbury in Wiltshire for over 30 years and really loved it. Now I am in France and very happy here, but I would really like to be in Adelaide, Sydney or Queenstown in NZ. I've been to many beautiful places, ( and some rough ones too.) and met some wonderful people, many of whom still count as friends, but the above mentioned would be my choices for living permanently. What about you?

I'm certainly no world traveller by any stretch of the imagination, but having holidayed quite a few times around the med, my choice would be a greek island, more-than-likely Corfu.
Maybe one day *sigh*

;D Here in the Rhone Alps--skiing(if you like that sort of thing.LOL) fishing galore, loads of decent airports t o spot at,continental climate(COLD in Winter but roasting in the Summer.) Easy access to the Med,the mountains and 1hr to Paris by TGV.
No tourists except on the mountains--the River Rhone and loads of beautiful lakes--picturesque villages with great local wines and produce. Spas and casinos (if that rattles your cage.LOL)
Sadly Chambery airfield closes down to passenger transport in the Summer but I am sure Easyjet could make a weekly flight pay.LOL And that would be the cherry one the cake.
If anyone wants to book at the B&B sorry this year is fully booked--can't think why.LOL

I was brought up in Liverpool, but have lived in sunny Sussex for almost 40 years. I do like it here, but have travelled extensively for work. I could live happily in Tucson, Arizona, where it is warm and not humid. Plenty of aviation action too! Scenery is importanty to me and Arizona is wonderful. In the opposite direction I have recently returned from doing a flying safari holiday in New Zealand, and spent some time in Queenstown, so I can see the appeal Ron, although perhaps it is a bit hectic for me. It is beautiful, but full of youngsters seeking thrills and having plenty of opportunity to achieve that. I thought Christchurch was my sort of place and the flying was just brilliant. I had never done mountain flying before and it was a steep learning curve. Especially as it was a 172 and not my PA28. I'd move there tomorrow if it were not quite so far away from family and friends. I certainly plan to go back as often as I can afford to.

Since my son married a Colombian girl we have been over to Colombia the last two summers and it may surprise a few people when I say that it would be a geat place to live - as long as you aren't poor ! It is warm, the people are very very friendly and the women are fantastically beautiful. The guerrilla warfare is now confined to the jungle areas and the main cities are now safe - at least as safe as most cities in America. Also there is none of the political correctness that is so tiresome now in this country. Viva el pais bonito de Colombia !

In response to richardheyward, I also can see the attraction of Christchurch, but actually its the young people and the vibrancy of Queenstown that attracts me. Truth is, I fell in love with a very cute little lady down there, and its hard to forget the good times we had. so I am sure this influences my choice She had two of the most beautiful sticking out bits you could wish for: a lovely little Pitts Special who took me to paradise several times during my stay.

A place that I would like to uproot and live is Peachtree near Atlanta. I went there in 2005 to the biz airfield. Plenty of movements, hot and huge houses with ATL just down the road. I got talking to couple whilst at the viewing area, they invited me to their home for the evening. I had a drink with them but I didn't stay. Lets just say the wife was very friendly and I'm sure I'll see that couple again if I watch documentaries on CH5 late at night.
