Now thats interesting because I think this type was at Burtonwood in the 1950's. Did it make an appearance at Speke on a diversion, I dont think so, the old runway was far too short. I have been to Pima and it seems in better condition than I remember.

I certainly remember one flying over the house where I lived near the airport, probably in the mid-50s. It made a tremendous noise, and I thought the world was coming to an end! Too young to be allowed to cycle to Burtonwood, and my dad was at work, so I never saw it on the ground, and the next time I saw one was at Pima. Love the way they called it the Peacemaker. And they say Americans have no sense of irony

Great aircraft. The 2nd shot looks like a blow up toy.

Nice photos John. Too young to remember this one (never thought I'd get to say that ;D) but would have loved to see one flying. Many Happy Returns BTW Hope you had a great day.

;D Great shots--missed them at Burtonwood but then my interest has always been with paying passengers.LOL] The plane itself was not a great success--probs with the engines I think. But what a beautiful sight.
I do remember the WB-50s at Burtonwood and the Packets and Globemasters. You couldn't miss them in StHelens.LOL
By the way--on photo 1 do I see a Gannet peeking out?

What a beastie!!!!!! Not seen any of these yet, when I went to Pima back in 97, she wasn't there....good enough reason to go back again!!!!! Would have LOVED to have seen one of these in the air, and 18 in one go......must have been a superb sight and sound? ?? I do know one of these crashed at Boscombe Down, I think by landing short with a problem! But still a real "super" plane. John
