It is with sadness that to-day I learned of the death of Graeme Thompson who worked in the Control tower at LJLA. Graeme brother of Adrian died on Sunday night in hospital. I knew him well in the 80's when we went on MAS trips to France and Holland but I have only met him a few times since. My deepest sympathy and condolences to all his family at this sad time. Regards Brian/Beemer.

Having known both of the Thompson brothers for many years, it was a great shock to hear of the sad news of the sudden passing away of Graeme. My last meeting with Graeme was a very enjoyable visit to the new control tower with FOLA
I offer my sincere sympathy to Graeme's and Adrian's families at this very sad time

Another one of the good ones has been taken from us! Very sad news to hear of Greame's passing away. I worked with Greame and Sue for a couple of years at the airport what a great couple they made. My thoughts are with Sue and family at this sad time.

Graeme was frequently my assistant in Liverpool ATC. He was a friend as much as a colleague and will be greatly missed.

I've posted a few items to the forum but wouldn't normally visit this section. It is sad to hear of Graeme's passing - despite it being 2 years since. I knew Graeme at St Margaret's school from 1966 - 1969 (we were in the same class) and we shared the passion of plane spotting. I remember him mentioning about a week into us knowing each other that he had seen more planes than me even though I had one visit to Heathrow in my log (1 August 1966). I think we managed to get almost half the class into plane spotting in the 3 years before I moved from Liverpool - with most having VHF radios of various descriptions. Many lessons were spent looking out for trails (Lichfield or Ottringham to Wallasey) and hoping someone had ear phones on and got the call sign. We then waited weeks to tie up the registration after sending letters to various Ops Managers at the airlines. (how times have changed). I recall many of us taking the bus one evening to see the Martinair DC9 (PH-MAN) that made a number of visits to Speke. Graeme and I also went to Ringway on a number of occasions (train from Hunts Cross followed by the 44 or 104 bus from memory). After moving from Liverpool I exchanged a few letters with Graeme and I still have these - with logs from his (and I assume Adrian) family holiday to Italy, France and Switzerland in 1969 and the West Country in 1970. Unfortunately we lost touch over the years but for a time in my life he was my best friend. RIP. If anyone reads this and is in touch with Adrian, please let him know about this post - he may remember me. (Rob Broughton, originally from Childwall).
