I'm just starting a Matchbox 1/72 chinook. Would anyone be interested in me posting updates/photos?

Plastic model construction is a topic area that until now has little mention/coverage on nwan. I, for one, would welcome a good 'photo story' thread on the progress from box opening to painted and displayed of the Chinook. There is a guy on the Valley Aviation Society who posts excellent progress reports on the kits he constructs, and as an ex-modeller, I find each of them an intriguing thread to follow as he reveals the techniques used and the highs and lows of progress. Even though I am unlikely ever to build another I find watching the progress fascinating. So if done well, a big nod of approval from at least one half of the admin team. Some links of examples of how a member of another aviation forum approaches a 'photo diary' of model kit construction: www.valleyaviationsociety.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=4129www.valleyaviationsociety.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3248 (there are two pages of this one)

This is the reverse of the box. It comes with 4 different scheme options 2 from No. 7 Sqd RAF Odiham 1986 and Britforleb task force Lebanon 1984, No. 18 Sqd from the Falklands as the famous Bravo November or 159th Battalion Fort Cambell. Ive opted for Bravo November. DSC_0019 by Christopher Newton, on Flickr Got a bit carried away with painting before thinking about starting this thread so here are the started to paint sprues. Im not sure about how much detail to go into as its going to be rather dark inside. Can't wait to see the finished model. I am currently doing a 1/72nd scale Airfix Dakota. It is a bit of a slog though as the new tooling has resulted in the interior cockpit and crew area being too large for the precise joining together of the two fuselage sections. Lots of sanding and filing are required to make it fit. Once complete it will join my D-day collection. Then it's on to the Albemarle.

I've got a 1/72 aswell will put pics on of it when I'm home. Chris

Managed to get a bit done over the last few days. I haven't really focused on it since Southport. DSC_0032 by Christopher Newton, on Flickr Put down a layer of medium grey. Unfortunately due to the weather I wasn't able to get out and airbrush so this was applied with the old method of paint pot and brush. I was quite lucky with the paint as it showed no brush marks. (Bad habit of mine). Last night was quite productive. Managed to get the green over the first coat a straight forward job. Again painted with a brush, again no brush marks. The rotors however were a different story. Very weak in fitting each blade to the centre. It was a case of carefully slide the blade over thin bit pin which I ended up snapping one and bodging it together. Thus, leaving a gap between blade and centre arm. Well it is now done. I have to say being a kit manufactured in 1986 (its older than me) its a really nice kit to build with so few issues compared to some newer kits. There have been a couple of issues:- The rotors-they need securing better than a piece of thin plastic (any major contact and that's it they need regluing). In the instructions the letter H appears with arrows pointing to the inside wall of the fuselage. Upon completion I realised that H means drill a small hole. The rear wheels have only one hole to be slotted into which means that they will give way at some point. Finally, the decals don't look smooth and natural. I think this is due to the actual age of the kit, chances are its started to degrade. Anyway time for the final photos and I do hope you like them.
