Nice photos Silverback. Wouldn't it be great if Liverpool could do something like that. I wonder if it would be cost effective to fit a separate stair case to the roof of the hangars, strengthen the roof, add decking and security/safety features. Disabled access could be obtained by extending the existing lift shaft to the terminal roof and adding a walkway Obviously, the charge for using it would have to be minimal to encourage friends and family seeing people off to use it. However, whilst there they will also be contributing more in parking fees and be utilising space not normally used. Landside shops could also be beneficiaries especially if once you've bought your ticket you can pop in and out. Huge marketing potential too, during the school holiday periods. Only a thought but could it become reality if someone was to twist Peels arm hard enough?

Cheers Graham Certainly some memories flooding back from Japan!
I must admit, I do look lonely on that Okinawa Naha Terrace - we were the only two on there - I think it was the only terrace where over the course of that afternoon / evening and the following morning that we didn't see a single other spotter / relative viewing the action - perhaps they've seen all those JMSDF P-3C's before!

Don't want to hi-jack an excellent photographic thread, especially as there is already a recently opened thread on the subject of future viewing facilities at LJLA. However, Ste-t has overlooked a simple problem, that from a few weeks time, most of the Liverpool terminal will be 'air-side' of security - so any scheme based on modifying existing roof area would be doomed, being unavailable to 'landside' spectators due to the alterations currently underway inside the terminal. As I understand it, 'landside' facilities will be limited in future effectively to just the ground floor.
Nice thought, though ten/twenty years too late!

Your right Viscount but I hadn't totally overlooked the air-side problem. I was thinking of utilising the current lift but did forget about the air-side roadway. How about placing the stair case close to the lift - theres plenty of room for it. That way the access to the roof would not require air-side access. Also the staircase could double as emergency access routes from all floors. However, if there are already plans in place for an emergency staircase from all floors to the ground floor, could this be extended to the roof?
As you say though. Nice thought but will never happen.
