Before being moved to this new Section, this thread had 473+ visits. On being moved the counter reset to 0
Hi All.
I was just wondering if it would be worth asking admin for a section to be created solely for posting photos and discussing modelling on the forum. Any thoughts?
Regards.

Colin,
I think it's a good idea.

If there is sustained and continued posting on the topic of aero modeling, then the Mods have absolutely no issue with creating a section and moving the existing threads/posts into it. However Sections have been created before eg Flt Sims that then get very little entered, so the Mods are watching and monitoring for now. Current indications are positive, but for a Section to be merited there need to be a few more regular contributors emerging in addition to the support the topic clearly has. Should a section be created then I would image the 'brief' would be wider than just aero modelling to transport ie ships, vehicles, cars, dioramas etc. While I feel sure that there are excellent forum purely on the subject, there is scope and clearly interest for coverage on an aviation enthusiast forum site too, alongside our usual reporting.
'Groth' summarises my personal position well too - a one-time plastic modeller, with a few boxes still in the cupboard. Looked at my 1:32nd scale Airfix Harrier GR.3 the other day, and pondered that if I made it not only for myself, but for others on the Forum, would I actually build it .... then put it away again wondering if I still had the skill-set and a steady enough paint brush hand to construct it to a sufficiently high enough quality to make good step-by-step viewing! So I am a supporter of creating a section, but do need to be certain first that there will be regular contributors, not just 'wanabes' like me.

Viscount, I agree about not wanting a section that gets very little coverage like the flight sim. Would it be possible to merge the 2 together? I see the flight sim as a sort of virtual modelling.

Chris, I feel that if there are 3 or 4 regulars, each contributing a new construction thread (each of 5 to 10 posts), say every 6-10 weeks, plus other less regular contributions from those with details/photos of finished products, or comments and tips - then a dedicated Section would be quite sustainable.
So it is upto other aero modellers to get their cameras out and record, then post and comment on their current project from box to completion. It would only take a few to follow your lead and we will have a very active community within nwan of modellers. The following certainly seems to be here, it now just needs a few to actively post regularly about their current project.

When posting about a build step-by-step many points may be raised as the build progresses. For photos of a previously completed project, it may be helpful to include a few details along with each set of model photos eg
A good clear thread title with: Manufacturer, aircraft type and scale. This makes locating the thread searchable and also clear once the Index page goes beyond page one! It likely will also make the thread listed on a 'Google' with the same three bits of information as key words, so seen by others outside of the nwan 'community'.
Modifications incorporated beyond the kit instructions.
Problems encountered with 'fit' - comment both on either well fitting or vast amount of filler used models, or sections of models.
What parts are moveable eg spinners, wheels, undercarriage, ailerons, rudder - and is construction of these moveable parts easy or complex etc
What sort of amount of weight needed to added (applies to nose wheel aircraft/helicopter types).
How good was the cockpit detail and pilots? Did any cockpit sub-assembly fit the fuselage well/badly when assembled?
How good were the 'clear' parts forming the canopy/windows etc (I can well remember struggling with badly fitting canopies or ones which required glue in very visible places etc). Tips for gluing and painting the detail on clear parts . Is the colour scheme and decals applied as per the instructions, or are they sourced from a specialist? What alternative marks/markings are offered as standard for that kit?
Problems encountered.
Personal thoughts on enjoyment/frustrations on completion of the kit.
You probably get the drift. Basically information for those that follow and a commentary for those just passively interested, so that they feel part of effort that went into the construction. Clearly not every thought above applies to every kit featured.

I am not a modeller at all but one thing that is needed to display your work properly is a light-box. It having a white interior with small strip lights to illuminate the subject giving a professional finish. Don't photograph them on a sheet of newspaper with what looks like bottle of sauce to one side. A pieces of white sheeting or A4 paper glued together curved up the wall behind your model makes it look good. Beemer.

Apologies for the sauce bottle still settling into my new home so my desk has been cluttered with random bits.
