Spent the afternoon at Dunmail again. Gorgeous weather with perfect light and a hint of warmth in the air ...could this be spring?
In total 8 aircraft managed to find there way in front of my lens during the afternoon. Quite a lot of other aircraft were noted around the South Lakes, but none close enough to identify: Harrier (x2), Tucano (lost count!) and a Typhoon.
A bit of drama to start off with when a Church Fenton based Tutor bimbled through, to be followed 20 seconds later by a GR4 which made a spritely avoidance turn to the left. The Tutor G-BYWP was one of three during the afternoon (plus XE and VX).
G-BYWP about to get a surprise! It was seen a few minutes later trailing an un-identified brown substance!!!
ZD812:104 GR4 from Marham avoiding the Tutor (recently returned to service after ATTAC upgrade at Warton). .
The only Tucano to grace Dunmail this afternoon were ZF172:MP-D 'Dorothy' in 76(R) Squadron markings along with ZF204 in 207(R) Squadron markings. The 'scenic' view is specially for Ronturner. Sorry its not a wider view Ron, but i only had my 300mm f4 with me. The 'nobbly' hill in the background is Loughrigg and the distant hills are around Windermere.
Well i was wondering if i was ever going to see one of these at low level again? So i was over the moon when this came around the corner. 111 Squadron F3 ZH552:HW. When Leeming had F3's based they were very common low in the Lakes, but alas no more.
And finally .... for a moment there were three King Air pilots in Dunmail! 45(R) Squadron ZK453:M.
Cheers
Shaun
