I hope that he enjoys the 8 months in the slammer--all clowns when caught have a sad tale to tell--it was my deprived childhood etc. We once travelled back from Gran Canaria to Manchester in a BA Tristar. It was like an old fashioned football special--abusing drunks with loud foul language throwing empty beer cans around over the heads of innocent passengers. The staff seemed incapable of stopping this behaviour and we were glad to be back on the deck. My ex wife took a long time to be tempted to fly again,as will many who were on that flight. I hope this example is well publicised and that other clowns take note.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will. Wherever there's alcohol or drugs around theirs always going to be afew who lose control not matter what deterrents are in place. Still as you say John, lets hope he enjoys his sentence, learns by his mistake and keeps away from the 'how to be a better criminal school' whilst there.

I agree entirely ste-t and it a sad reflection on where we are at the moment as a society.BUT They all learn how to be a better criminals whether they are inside or not--I think it could be used as a red herring or SPIN to make people feel prison is not really suitable for thieves and the frankly dangerous. Let's put it this way--if they are inside they are not outside causing folks like us grief. So lock them up-retrain if possible-but make the experience unpleasant enough to make a repeat visit undesirable. A society that can build concorde and put men on the moon should be able to work that one out and have the will to put it into action. Populist and popular are words that necessarily have a similar meaning--giving people what they want is not always wrong--and I, like many others, would rather see criminals punished rather than rewarded.
